Well, I'm going to attempt to buiid a dedicated gaming machine. The games I play use older game engines which do not utilize MultiCore.. And they don't use the Vid card very well either apparently.

I purchased the Chip i'm gonna be running this on, an Intel P4 651 with a clock of 3.4Ghz. Now i need a Mobo recommendation.
I'm trying to build the whole rig on a pretty tight budget.
I know i want 1 PCIx16, but sli or cfx isn't important at all. I want at least 4GB of ram support. And I'd like to be able to OC this chip to get the most performance i can from EQ2.

any suggestions?

pretty good board for the price... if you really want the most for your older games on a single core, then why not a new cpu?

even at 3.2ghz the Celeron-L 430 would run loops around the P4 you have. even if the P4 is overclocked.

Okay.. Why would the Slower Celeron, Outperform the P4? The P4 is a Northbridge, not a prescott. It's one of the Fastest single core chips Intel made, as far as I can tell

intel's "core 2" arch is much more efficient per clock then "netburst", that is the name for all P4/PD arch.. doesnt matter if its a northwood or presshot, its slow clock to clock compared to a "core 2" cpu. for instance a PD would need a clock speed of 4.2ghz to match the intel Core 2 E6600 at stock(2.4ghz). the celeron only looks slow on by clock speed but trust me its not. i use to run my Celeron-L 420 oced to 3.2ghz, did a good job in some newer games, dual core was better though. the new Celeron-L line is Intel's fastest single core cpu now. :)

Well, I guess I shoulda asked before I bought the chip ? Rookie Mistake.

put it up on ebay or something, up to you... what games will you be playing beside EQ2?

then you can stick with the P4 for now, till you think you need more cpu power... the P4 will run hotter then the new "core 2" stuff, if that matters to you.

that maybe true, but if your in a small room like me. the P4 will dump more heat into the room then the "core 2".
