I'm shopping for an excellent P-4 socket 478 CPU cooler suitable for heavy duty overclocking. After wading through what few reviews I can find, it appears that the AVC Sunflower is a good cooler for a reasonable price. But, I was hoping for an exceptional cooler. Apparantly, the only thing I can find so far that is significantly better is the Swiftech MCX478, which is quite expensive. I'd be willing to pay the premium price if this cooler is truly the best. Anyone know of good links to P-4 socket 478 cooler reviews? Any other possible suggestions? Where to buy for a good price?

Batboy,

Im in the same boat as you, Im putting together a 478 system and after looking at my air cooling options I am going to H20 cooling or buying the Swiftech MCX478

Heres a review of middle of the road coolers:

Overclockers just did a review on an Arkua 7528 ( http://www.overclockers.com/articles503 ) It's the best performing heatsink I've seen yet. Only drawback is I can't find it for sale anywhere. Has anyone seen it?

Not trying to be critical Nodoze, but that link you provided for the Arkua 7528 review is not for P-4 CPUs.

SSSam, yep, that was one of the reviews I'd stumbled across and for the middle of the road coolers, it appears the AVC Sunflower does quite well. Thanks.

I still haven't found a review where the Sunflower and the Swiftech are compared head to head. The Swiftech is nearly 3 times the price, but is it worth it? Anyone know where to buy the Sunflower or the Swiftech for a reasonable price.

But a quick newbie question for you. I have been serching for specks on the p4 and heat tollerance. The intel sheet stated something I dont understand but it had a 57C tied to it .. What would you suggest as a comfortable heat range for this 478 p4??
Mine is a 1.5ghz any reply from more knowlegable persons would be appreciated.
Thanks
Meta

I don't have personal experience with the P-4 yet, but it's like any other CPU as far as overclocking goes... the cooler the better. I've heard from several sources that for overclocking purposes (especialy if running higher than default voltages), that you'll have the best success and stability if you can keep the full load CPU temps below 50 degrees.

After reading the new overclockers.com P-4 cooler review (link is on the home page), I decided to spend the big bucks and get the top dog. I just now ordered one of those Swiftech MCX478 coolers. Looks really cool (pun intended).
