what is the big deal of online games!! could someone please tell me wat they are all about!! ive been gaming for as long as i remember and online gaming is a bit confusing. the games i play are RTS, role playing and FPS. WHAT ARE ONLINE GAMES ABOUT AM I MISSING OUT??????
You miss out on playing against other people,in most cases, not some computer AI..
Not to mention working as a team with other people to accomplish hard tasks.
I rarely, and i mean rarely, play non online games.
Only single player game to get me lately has been CoD4, then multiplayer ever since then LOL
I've been insanely hooked on online gaming. But now i'm just burned out between not really any shooters being innovative (or at least different enough to pull me in these days). I'm falling away from it. I quit wow.
Online gaming used to be great few years ago. Now imo it's being over run by 12 year olds and idiots with rage problems.

Also, on the MMO side of online, you get much larger worlds to play in and a pretty decent economy where the prices of various products tends to run by supply and demand.
I like playing with other people, but sometimes when you've had a hard day at work it's nice to get away from people and play singleplayer games lol.

I agree.
If you play RTS versus AI is nothing compared to a real person. I NEVER play single player games. Its been about 7 years since I played and finished a single player game.
Offline games are in my opinion boring, it requires little skill to beat an AI opponent.
Example, most Age of the Empire 3 games, are 3 real players verse 5 EXPERT computers to make it fair.
For me FPS/RTS must be played online, I can't think of doing it any other way.
the only single player game I will probably play and finish will be Fallout 3 when it comes out.

online gaming is all i do
The only single player games I've played in the past 10 years have been console RPGs. I don't see how a gamer in this day and age could not know anything about online gaming. If you're being honest about not ever playing them, then you really are missing out on a lot.
Imho the big deal about online gaming is the community aspect of it all, sure its a challenge meeting people that have different playing styles and tactics than you; but I think it's fun being part of a community for it all. Granted some members of the so called 'community' have the intelligence and social graces of a spastic ninja... but... it does make it worth while with the team work foundations etc.. that can be set out.

Take WOW for example, you can have several dozens friend on to chat with, and on PVP server the enemies actually fight back. Not some scripted AI that becomes easy once you figure its pattern.

Online is were it is at. I still play single player games it's just more fun with friends. Take NWN2 great game with a little replay value and in a few friends that can rp and the game is so much more fun(that is if yo can get NWN2 to work in multiplayer grr).
FPS single player is only good for the storyline if there is one. AI really aren't challenging and almost always have a flaw. Most FPS out now are made for online play.
For me the only down fall in online is rts most games/player are rush tactics to me thats not fun. I can't tell you how may time I broken peoples rushes in games like c&c3 and they just drop out afterward because thats all they have and sadly 9 times out of ten thats all they need.

You know when you make someone pp their pants in online...like when you drop a 500pounder on a jeep who thinks nobody has seen him...or 4 guys at once in a transport....heh..

Well, speaking personally, I play both online and off but for different reasons.
As has been said already, sometimes there is a story line that is worthwhile. But with MMO type games, you are even more a part of a huge and ongoing story. Against that, as has been said, one can and does deal with real human opponents when you are in a non MMO on line game.

True enough but you can get your frag fest fix on either way.
Last night, I found a server for TF2 that was running some weird made up map that had two bases on either leg of a U shape and a tower in the middle. Whomever made it did not even try to use nice graphics. It was all angles and flat surfaces with no special textures. It was set for instant respawn and unlimited time.
On the other hand, I still occasionally bring out D2:LOD for my frag fest fix.
In singe player, I will run up a very special unbalanced tank barb that AFAIK nobody else ever builds. At least it is not a build that I have ever seen on any web site. I will not bore you with the details here. I call this build the “food processor”.
He can take on Diablo himself by level 50 or by level 35 if you use a tome of town portal and drop two portals right before you get to Diablo for faster trips.

Well if they drop you win right? Good players won't rush and drop.
I just played an hour game in AOE3 (with all the expansions) and I rushed him, almost killed him then I had to let up, and he came back fast (he was much higher rank than me) then he came after me and failed, and it kept going on and on, and an hour later we were both in Age IV fighting it out, it was pretty fun.
The ending was the greatest though, he beat me, then called me a noob.
I was like wtf, your like 10 levels above me and I kept you going for a good hour in a half.
Oh well. RTS is fun but it does suck when you get 13 year olds your playing against who just talk **** half the time or after the game, instead of gg, they say noob or spam taunts, that's always annoying but still hasn't ever kept me from enjoying a good game online.

When allies loses on WOW PVP server. Once I "helped" them lose when I happened to fly over Lord Kazzak. Dropped in (literally) uninvited, took the debuff and sent a few of them to their early graves. With their and my death, Kazzak became more powerful and the rest of the raid wiped quickly. It wasn't easy getting that debuff when Kazzak's attention were on other players.
Those allies' guild were on my top 5 KOS list anyway.

Play with a friend, kick their butt or get your butt kicked, then come back and post about your experience. The general objective is to be able to compete and have fun doing it, much like when people play normal sports. Its a whole other world out there.

To be honest, that's the only reason I play online games ;)
