both my APC brand RS 1000 backup units are giving me fits about the batteries being weak now, they are at least 5 years old now.

APC wants about $75 for a new one and locally batteries plus wants about $65 for a new setup plus i think i may have to rig the wires on that , any place online i can get them cheaper, or do i just get a whole new units ?

suggestions ?

I replaced the batteries in my 1200VA Belkin for half what I paid for it.

Just do some Google searching and look for the best price and shipping cost combination. The lead acid batteries are heavy and shipping will be a good portion of the total cost. You should still save ~50% of a new unit.

I've been getting batteries cheap from a local fire/security alarm supply house.

Batteries Plus isn't known for being cheap.
