If there is indeed any kind of bottle-neck when running PCIe2.0 x16/x8 on P45 then can that bottle-neck be lessened by increasing the PCIe2.0 bus speed from 200 to 220-230?

Also, on PCIe2.0 boards is the PCI clock based on the PCIe2.0 frequency (1/2 divider), or does it have it's own clock locked at 100MHz? My concern is if upping the PCIe2.0 frequency will have any adverse affect on Sata HDDs like it does on PCIe1.x boards.

TIA!

well all i can do is guess since i dont have a PCIE 2.0 board. i would assume it does have a divider since sata controler on the ich9X is on the pcie buss. as far as i have read even intels new ich10x is still on the pcie 1.0/1.0a buss. Then assuming it is using a divider then 110 mhz would = 220 on pcie 2.0. the higher buss speed would help lessen the "bottleneck" on P45 at res's higher then 1920x1200. As the benchmarks show that at 1920x1200 both 16/8 and 16/16 show the same fps per same cards. P45 shows less fps when going over 1920x1200. the only time to worry about sata drives is when you go over 110mhz. i have been running my 7900GT KO and sata drives with PCIE 110mhz for about year+ now, no issues.

There was a huge chugging problem on PCIE 1.1 with my P35. Its gone now on my P45. I am working on trying to do a comparison review but I need a CPU

I want to get the Foxconn P45 Avenger, but I have no idea when it's supposed to be released (or if it's vaporware).

I'm running 1680x1050 now, and will hopefully be getting a 32" 1080p set by the end of the year.

I'm thinking a couple 4850's or 4870's or maybe a 4870x2 in the top slot, and a 4870 in the bottom slot...who knows! LOL!

o sounds sexay! i would do the 4870x2 if you can wait that long.... otherwise get 2 4850's now and sell them later! :)

Jason, I did 1920x1200 with 2 x 4850 on my P45 and Rattle did the same with his Maximus Formula and we got about the same benchmarks, looks like the bandwidth is adequate at least up to 1920x1200...might be a different story above that res as Dr Evil says.

Id really like to see a few gaming comparisons with a dual 4870 between this p45 vs an x46 with dual pci-e 16x.

Care to elaborate on the sata drive issue? How does frequencies of >110mhz hurt sata drives?
the same issue as if PCI buss was over 36-38mhz with PATA. when the buss gets to out of spec, data corruption happens on the HD's. PCIE buss handles SATA controler on the SB...

Ooh excellent so 16x and 8x doesn't hurt performance at 1920x1200 Guess that opens up a few more options in the mobo search for me.
