Ive got the comp in my sig, and I've noticed that when Win98se finishes booting, the screen goes into standby mode. I can fix this by putting a small program that temporarily changes the resolution in the startup folder, but it also does this when I exit from Age of Empires 2 (it's brother's game; I don't like supporting MS unnecessarily).
I've got the latest drivers from gainward, but they haven't done anything for me. I've also tried running the prog to switch resolutions with a keyboard shortcut, but it doesn't work in LiteStep (litestep.net).
Any ideas?

Sounds like its a refresh rate problem - my guess anyway - if you are using custom drivers - try changing it to a generic one or if you use anything higher than 98 you can set it to default monitor.

a safe refresh rate to try is 60hz - increase it and test it each time - it looks like a particular resolution is set to a certain refresh rate which the monitor cannot display...

Good Luck.

I'm using the default refresh rate and the 23.11 detonator drivers (although I had this problem before with different drives).

Go into safe mode and adjust all of your resolution, color and refresh rates. You may have to reboot a few times. I had a similar issue that started after I changed video driver. The monitor would go nighty night after starting Q3 and UT. Going into safe mode and applying the varying desktop resolutions fixed it's sleepy habit.:)
Good luck
