I'm going to buy 2 DVD drives and am stuck between one LG GH22NP20 with GSA-H55LK, two Samsung SH-S202N's, or two GH22NP20's. I haven't dealth with Lightscribe before, but it seems like a miracle worker for putting simple text labels on my CD's and DVD's. The first LG setup would give me a Lightscribe drive and a faster 22x drive, but I'm also not sure about whether or not it's ok to mix the fast LG with the Samsung (which has a lower response time). What do you guys think?

They're both fine, although personally I would go with a drive that has a SATA interface, simply better cable management. If I had to choose, I'd go to the associated manufacturer's website and check firmware updates. Whichever drive seems to be better supported would be my choice. :)

I can't, I have a DFI Lanparty DK with 5 hard drives, and I plan on adding another hard drive later. Plus, other than cabling mess (I have a Thermaltake Armor and thin IDE cables so no worries) there aren't any speed benifits of SATA over IDE for DVD-drives.

Sata controllers are still new and sometimes, large data transfers via sata can cripple the entire controller. IDE is a little better.

SH-203B or N has my vote, I have two of them and both burn very nicely.

Quiet and good quality on 4x, 8x, and even 16x according the Nero CD/DVD checker.

If you can live without LightScribe you can buy the burners here:

I know the speed benefits aren't there, it was strictly a cable management - based suggestion.

I didn't know that, thank you.

I'm a fan of lightscribe, but cannot seem to find DualLayer LS discs. :(

Since all burners are so close in price I'd avoid Liteon's. I have had a few and they just don't seem to last and have a generally cheap feel.

I'm happy with my Liteon. I get whatever is cheapest from Liteon, LG, or Samsung.

thats the review for the sh-s203b via cd freaks

“The Samsung SH-S203B is blazing fast, has a great feature set and burns media with excellent/very good quality. An outstanding effort from Samsung”

T"he Samsung SH-S203B is the fastest drive we have tested here on CD Freaks as far as writing DVD media is concerned. Being a so called multi-drive, the Samsung SH-S203B supports all of the currently popular CD/DVD formats including DVD-RAM."
"The Samsung SH-S203B was able to burn all our tested CD-R/RW media with excellent/very good quality and media compatibility was also very good.

DVD±R/RW writing quality was also of a very high standard and on most media excellent, the Samsung SH-S203B coping with some difficult to handle media extremely well. The Samsung SH-S203B was also able to burn selected DVD±R media at faster than its rated speed, and overall burning performance with DVD±R media was very impressive indeed. Recording the fastest write times we have seen.

The Samsung SH-S203B also proved to be a good performer with DVD-RAM media, again recording some very fast write times with our tested 12x DVD-RAM media.

The Samsung SH-S203B boasts a very fast 16x writing speed on DVD+R DL media, writing a full DL disc in 10 minutes and 33 seconds was most impressive. Not only was the performance excellent, recording the fastest burn times we have seen, but also the writing quality on our tested media was mostly very impressive.

Reading performance and reliability is excellent and a big improvement in speed terms over older Samsung models."

Although it seems abit old now.....I have one of these, they seem to burn with no problems at all, for me atleast.
And i agree with the above poster, the liteon does feel cheap, its also loud.
