first, welcome to the forums.
this really should be posted the motherboards section. posting in the wrong forums is a serious offence around here, i hope no one else saw this.....

As for the question, youre gonna start a debate, because both companies make great boards, it just depends on what features you need and your price range.

What kind of processor are you looking to use? AMD or Intel?

and yes, this post is in the wrong topic, but since it is your first post, i wouldn't worry about it too much, but next time try to find the right forum, your question will be answered

you my friend, are going to start a debate, with this asus vs abit thing

i have used both, and i perfer abit, both companies make good boards and either one would be a good choice

Sorry if I was a little scary Fantom, it's just that this orange stuff I'm smoking is a bit pokey.

Overclockingwise you could do far worse than MSI, ABit, ASUS, Soyo, EPoX, IWill and perhaps a few others, BUT if you're going down the Intel P3 avenue your best bet for a mainboard would be the Abit ST6 RAID or the ASUS TUSL2.

Pentium 4 avenue probably dominated by the EPoX 4SDA/+ in the overclocking world.

Shadow,

Im really not sure which processor i will go with when i build my system. Which do u think is better for overclocker? AMD or Intel P4? Price is no object to me. I want to build a fast system, soup to nuts for CAD, graphics and gaming.

It varies for which chip.
For the P4 Asus has good boards.
For P3 and Tualatin based chips and Celeron's Abit is better for me, as they have early 1/4 dividers and their quality is superb.

I don't know how they match in AMD but I guess boards like the AK31 or Epox 8KHA+ or 8K7A really beat them in the XP Chips..

They are about equal in my book. I just refuse to run anything with an Asus label on it. It's a personal thing that is derived from them putting out cheater drivers for their videocards allowing people to see through walls in games....

But aside from personal bias, flip a coin...

Either I'm not catching on or I'm very stupid.

Asus released video card drivers that was basically a wall hack?

Asus or Abit? im now leaning towards the Athlon XP processor since its about the same speed as the P4 chip.
So now which MOBO is the best board betweeen Asus and Abit?

I've got an ASUS A7V right now, I like it, wish it was a KT133a though :)

I've built a few systems off Epox's newest stuff which are going great...

Past two I've built have been with Abit KG7's...very nice board! I love the Epox 8K7A, but I must say when I tried the Abit, when you look at it, it just MAKES SENSE! Their board layout is quite nice...everything is where it needs to be...

Ofcourse this isn't Abit vs Epox...(which would be tough lately too, i'll admit)

Like mentioned, it depends on what you want. For the AthlonXP, I personally feel Abit has both a better AMD761 and KT266a board than Asus...for P4 I think Asus is winning in my book...

Again, depends on what you want...if I had to choose I'd go Abit, but regardless of how you choose you'll get a decent board.

personally i know that abit bios's are very friendly for overclockers, at least for athlon users (i haven't had experience with anything else :p). its as easy as setting the voltage, fsb, multiplier, all in the same menu. i looked at my friend's gigabyte mobo and it looked a little more complicates...plus i'm just an abit man, so i recommend abit. :D

I'd go with the Abit KR7A-Raid. It's getting very good reviews as far as overclocking/stability.

Yes they did it about 6 months ago. They said it was a developers driver that was leaked, then had the nerve to put up a poll on their website to see if the public wanted them to keep producing them. (And the cheap *******s that cheat were winning!)

And the sad thing is, that most people don't remember, but they did the exact same thing about 3 years ago....minus the poll.

And that is why I refuse to buy anything with the Asus name on it.
