View Full Version : Should I worry or just ignore it?
I just switched my PSU to a new Rosewell 500W.
Now, every time I power up the computer, it seems to be turned on for like 2 seconds first, then it stayed "turn off" for another 5 seconds, before it really turn on again for good.
It's like that every time, not including reset.
Should I worry?
Is this normal for Rosewell PSU, or there is some kind of problem, or it is a serious problem that I HAVE TO FIX IT NOW?
I don't know if this problem is related to
1.

2. It seems my motherboard will not detect both IDE DvD drive/burner.
It was able to detect them on boot up screen, but refuse to let me see any of them in the windows. After fooling around with them, I was finally able to see one of the two DVD drives. The other one is still invisible.
Had this IDE device problem with another board just 2 days ago. These SATA boards with only 1 IDE channel seem to hate IDE devices.

I think your problem may be the Rosewill PSU. It may say 500W, but I am pretty sure that is at peak. Real continuous power rating may be around 250W, but I can't be absolutely sure about that. I would recommend a Corsair 450-VX (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139003) or any Corsair unit, PC Power & Cooling Silencer 500 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703015) or just about anything from PC Power & Cooling, and from what I understand Hiper (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817128013) PSU's are pretty high quality also.
Keep in mind, if you go with a PC Power & Cooling PSU, some of the models can be quite a bit longer than most PSU's. They do this for a reason, to put a bit of space between the fan and the components it is cooling to help try to eliminate turbulence. Here (http://www.pcpower.com/technology/silencer_noise/) is a link to show you the description.
I was using a cheap Antec 380W before this one. I had no problem.
I wasn't totally sure if it was the new PSU's fault, because I just switched case, and now try to use two IDE DVD burners instead of one SATA DVD burner.
I could only detect one of the two IDE DVD burners, and I couldn't get front USB port to work.
So the boot problem isn't the only problem.
Which confused me more on the issue.
It may be that the power supply sent some kind of shock through the system and killed a few components. I would highly recommend not using a Rosewill as they are pretty much utter crap. If you are looking for a new PSU I would recommend a nice Corsair or OCZ unit (OCZ bought out PCP&C) so their PSU have come up quite a bit in quality.
What components are you referring to?
The other DVD burner? The USB port?
Or something else that cause the above components not working?
It couldn't detect any of the two DVD drive/burner at first, after played around with the IDE cable(plug different end to different drive), one of them was detected, but the other remain invisible.
I suspect the motherboard does not like IDE devices.
The USB port would turn the jump drive or any USB devices on for a few seconds, then turn off.

Antec uses a fairly good OEM as far as I know. The Earthwatts 380 is very highly recommended around here for budget rigs. What Eman is trying to say along with me, is that Rosewill Power Supply is what is causing your problems. I would seriously recommend getting it out of that computer and replace it with something more reputable.
