I have a compaq presario sr1950nx. I have not added anything but a 1gb stick of ram. I recently took the power supply out of it and put it in another computer that's PSU went dead, so I'm looking for a cheap replacement. I don't want to spend too much, I won't use this for gaming, just to browse the internet, etc.

I would stay away from Raidmax. Antec makes some good low power units.

Should I get this one then?

I used this Antec (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371005) to get a friends Compaq back up and running. He still had warranty on the rig, but decided to give me a call because he knew he would be getting a quality PSU. According to him, the computer is running a lot more stable, and a even quieter than what was in there before.

The 1950nx isn't that old (Athlon64) and the Earthwatts would be the best choice imho because its more efficient and oriented towards a 12V heavy computer.

Now if you wanted a power supply for an AthlonXP or Pentium III system, then you would want a power supply like the Basiq 350(or the FPS/Sparkle units its based on) as they are designed for machines that run mostly off the 5V line. For these ancient machines what you want is a PSU with at least 20A on the 5V and 3.3V rail.

And a combined 3.3V/5V rating over 180W or so. That part's important ;)

Thermal Take, FSP Power (highly recommended and cheap), Fortron PSUs.

Antec basiq I'm very skeptical about as the ODM also makes PSUs for other branded power supply makers I never heard about. Sure the QC might be better, but I've replaced Basiq PSUs in old PCs in less than 90days of use...

Basiq is low end FSP/Sparkle.

Of course, must have slipped my mind.
