Gigabyte P35-DS3L sm bus controller problem!!!

Have a issue with my new system, when plugging or unplugging a usb or sound cable causes the system to freeze needing a manual reset.

running Q6600, P35-DS3L mobo xpSP2.

I have SM bus controller highlighted in my device manager!!.

is the freezing due to the SM BUS controller?
I have installed the drivers for the M/B but theres nothing for SM Bus.
Intel has a Chipset Software Installation Utility but does not list my series chipest "Series 3" as being compatible with the software.

any ideas??

Have you looked here ? I installed the chipset utility with zero issues and I have a P35 board.
