hi

i'm going to get a new computer in nevember/december and i tought it would be nice if it was silent and i could OC it to get a bit more performance if needed. i'd prefer it to be completely fanless and as silent as possible.

here's the main specs of it:
GFX: ASUS GeForce 8800GTS PCIE 512MB or BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 WC 512MB PCIe
MEM: 2GT DDR3 1600MHz+ (PC-12800), Extreme Edition Dual-kit (1+1)
CPU: CORE 2 DUO E8400
MoBo: ASUS Striker II Extreme
PSU: Zalman 750W, Heatpipe cooled ATX-PSU

any suggestions for the cooling system? i tought of zalman reserator kits, but after reading some forums i thought it'd be better (and cheaper) if i build my own.

before i get that system, i have some old computers to build a test system and practice a little with water cooling and i thought i could even manufacture my own CPU blocks.

the info i need most by now is the mounting hole positions for the block for P4 if anyone has them at hand so i don't need to measure them. the old rigs are about 100kms away now and with these gas prices i wouln't like to drive around just to pick up some trash for measurements.

i'm working in a metal shop, so tools and materials are no problem, but some advice how to start making my own blocks would be very nice.

3.7GHz? ... 4GHz is easy with a TRUE & any fan

(The post above this one disappeared .. So the stuff above this sentence means nout now ..)

Making your own block might not result in something that performs very well .. But then again a fair few people do make their own .. A waterloop with a pair of low RPM fans would result in a near silent system (well from the fan noise P.O.V) and it'd mean you could do a fair bit of overclocking .. Those Zalman kits are good for stock speeds + low heat gear .. But not all that great for overclocking..

i meant something along the lines of 4.4GHz. not extreme, but high enough that the fan sound would become annoying. as said before i want it as fanless as possible.

i wouldn't like to pay much so less than 200€ is the budget. i can macgyver everything else but the pump if needed.

i'd also your opinion about the GFX card. i'm going to cool it with water too, so should i get the BFG card with factory installed LCS or get aquagrafx block or try to make my own for that too?
