I'm not a fan boy or anything, I just like getting the biggest bang for my buck. I havnt had an ATi card since the 9800 XT. I been a little iffy on weather to buy a 8800 GTS (G92), a 9800 GTX, or 4850 ?
Any ideas ? thanks

Thought the 4850 outperformed the as well 9800GTX. Just that the 9800GTX+ should beat the 4850 in performance from a stock, non OCed version stand point if not mistaken.
Also note, the 4850 takes less power than the 9800GTX or 9800GTX+ for sure. Think its close to the 8800GTS power consumption.

8800GTS doesn't really have its own price point anymore ($200). 9800GTXs are selling for that much, and 4850 for even less, and both cards beat it.

Depends how much you are going to pay for each card. If you can grab the GTS for one of those $130-$140 deals, it's a better value than the 4850 at $170-$190.
If they are priced the same, go with the 4850.

Go with the 4850.
He said bang for buck :) Not which card is faster ;) Depending on pricing, the 4850 isn't automatically the best choice.

Also, the 4580's goes for $150 shipped amir, so value wise it is clearly the 4850

4850 beats GTS and GTX, in some cases GTX+. 4850 is cheaper than all 3 of those cards where i live, so it is definitely the best bang for your buck. 4850 runs hotter though.

Seeing as the GTS is $150 after rebate again, I'd agree. I would definitely think twice though if that $119 deal for a GTS-512 was still active..

why? when you could also get a intel based motherboard that smashes the nvidia motherboards. getting a motherboard intel based chipset is about $50-150 cheaper. so imo that makes the 4800's look even sexier.
+1 4850

While I agree, this is somewhat irrelevant; the original poster already has a X38 board. What isn't irrelevant however is that in the future he can Crossfire if he wishes. :burn:

i was just sayin how much cheaper a total ati based system would be compared to nvidia..plus the intel based chiipset mobos just mop up nvidias, when it comes to o/cing, stability, and reliability...
since he has a x38 i think its pretty much a no brainer...
4850, for a different reason than most of the others. CF in the future is a distinct possibility, as opposed to the SLI options for the 8800 (SLI needs to die, IMO), and with the 4850's could get you significantly better performance than even the 4870, for significantly less (assuming you get a 150~ deal).
In summary,
Better future proofing for less money,
Better performance and features than the other options,
other stuff. Why the hell am I summarizing.
