IThurs the price was jacked up to $189.99 when I ordered it then Fri went back down to $169.99. Now it's even lower. Who would have known.
wow i am not a gamer so i dont follow video card prices, but this review was posted less than a month ago and the price of the card has dropped about $100

A month is plenty of time for the PC industry to render something obsolete... :santa:

Yea 256MB really hurts these chips, maybe ok if you're at a low resolution or for a F@H card though. $70 is still rediculously low for it.

Like you said, $70 is ridiculously low for what you are getting. All you folding folks should be jumping all over these.

Heck at that price it's almost in to back-up card territory at about $30 more than the cheapest cards around and that's a pretty nice backup card.

What CPU would this compare to in Folding?

a Q6600 at 4GHz. These 8800's have been making 2500-3500ppd.

More like 4900+ ppd with the shaders over 1800.

Wow, so it's the equivalent of all four cores? I don't fold but I could conceivably throw one of these in my server. Not sure Id want to add the heat and power draw though I really went out of my way to make it low. Would it be hampered by a slow CPU?
Would it be hampered by a slow CPU?How slow? Stanford is working hard to reduce the CPU usage. In Vista its very low usage.
On XP Uses 20% of 1 of my 4 cores.@4300ppd(With SMP running)
Also ordered 1 just to speculate.:)

How much will it be better than 7600GS?
If I can sell my 7600GS for $50 then I can put in $20 more and get this better deal!!!

Slow but modern, a Celeron 420 single core C2D @ 1.6GHz.

like 3-4 times the power.
if u get a 4000 score in a 3dmark06 it will jump to 10,000-12,000 or better. the only bottle neck at that time would be a CPU.
How much better against a 7900GS? Basically for Oblivion :D
My specs:
MOB: Gigabyte GAM61PS3
GPU: EVGA GeForce 7900GS KO @ around 550/1500Mhz
CPU: A64 X2 4000+ @ 2980Mhz
RAM: OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2 6400 @ around 830Mhz
HDD: Western Digital 200GB 7200RPM SATA
DVD: Asus SATA
PSU: Thermaltake Purepower 500w
LCD: Acer 19" Widescreen 1440x900
Thanks! :attn:

Your resolution isn't high so the difference might not be as pronounced and it's hard to find direct comparisons with those two cards. But I think we can reasonably we can pretend that the 8800GT performs something like a G80 8800GTS 640MB in this review: http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/11211/14
^ Cool. Thanks!
I ordered it :D
Looks like the only real difference between the 256 and 512 version is when you reach the higher resolutions and my 1440x900 is be nothing.

Er, dang I forgot this was the 256MB :bang head Let me see if I can find anything else, but it will stlil be better than your 7900GS I'm sure. Is your 7900GS 512MB?
OK, here's a review with lots of different games of the 256MB. The 1280x1024 resolution is really close in total pixels to yours so it's fine for comparison, the only problem is there's just a few cards in this one:
http://xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/sparkle-px88gt256_7.html
Looks like it does reasonably well at the lowest resolutions and in Oblivion, although it chokes on some games, mainly seems to be the newest DX10 games. But as long as you get the MIR on this card it's hard to complain.
^ Nope mine is 256MB; http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814130056\
Thanks for that link!
I have another question; probably really dumb.
Since mine was PCI Express x16 v1 I assume and this one is v2 how do I know my board supports v2?
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model.aspx?ProductID=2434
Once again thanks!
