View Full Version : Yikes my PC leaked...

Almost 2 weeks after the initial leak test passed, it started leaking a few days ago when I noticed a small pool of water on top of reservoir. At first it was slow leak but by this morning it was coming out rather quickly, roughly tasapoon full per minute. So I had to shut the PC down and drain the whole system.

Seems like I may have overtightened the hose clamp which cut into the plastic hose. :o So I put in a new hose section (only about 15 inches, not enough slack to cut off damaged end), a little electric tape around the end and replaced the hose.

The hardest part is trying to get all the air out again. And 30 minutes quick leak test since it was only 1 connection. (risky yeah but if it leaked, water would only end up on bottom, and nothing on bottom can short out)

I had that same problem when i was leak testing my system. I actually ended up taking most of the hose clams off since the tubing was on it well enough that it was hard to get off lol

I wish they made pastic worm drive clamps or something more flexible. I've never been happy with any type of fastener considering the importance of a water-tight seal. Compression fittings are the best, but they are expensive and bulky.

Glad you didn't fry anything. I keep paper towels under all connections for a week or two for that reason.

If you have the one hump barbs, i recommend a zip tie, pulled tight with pliars, then pull the tubing back until the zip tie is up against the block side of the barb hump. If multiple, it's a bit more tricky, the last hump is normally bigger and you just have to make sure to tighten it carefully to stay on the side, then do the same as above. Enjoy.

You can get the wire-style calmps (equal pressure but narrow ID range), unperferated worm-drive clamps (indents not holes), and some worm-drive/t-bolt clamps have a protective 'flap' that covers/prevents the drive area from cutting. Mcmaster.com is your friend...for a price :sn:

In most cases you only need enough clamping force to keep it from slipping. Too much on some clamps and it will actually make it worse due to deforming.
