View Full Version : Half-Life 2 inconsistency

I just finished playing through Half-Life 2, and started on episode 1 yesterday. Being the first time I'd run it, I had to set all the options up to par. When I got down to the anisotropic filtering, I had options all the way up to 16x csaa whereas the original only gave me up to 6x msaa. At first I figured that it was just due to the episodes being newer, but then I had another thread going where I found out I was wrong, and my brother confirmed that he also gets 16x in the original. Any idea what the issue is? I'm more than a little annoyed that I could have been looking at better quality the whole time...

Could you take a screenie of the old one?

The old half life, as opposed to ep1? If that's what you're getting at I'll handle it when I get home. I'll take a shot in ep1 as well for comparison sake.

Ok, here's one of the options tab in hl2

here's one of Barney and some background in hl2

And here's one of Alyx and some background in ep1. Dark area, but that's as far as I've gotten.

pretty jaggy in the second picture, but I can't imagine what it would look like with no AA at all.

Oh, and since I see it commonly that the problem with HL2 is fixed by re-installing, I tried that. It didn't give me any new options. Also, hunting around the hl2 section on the steampowered forums doesn't find anything. closest thing I saw was that some people couldn't use 6x with their 8800gtx, but 4x worked just fine. Not even a mention of 16x...
