Hi,
I just picked up an Audigy card (x-gamer) for my setup. I am running WinXP / Win98. When I installed the creative software on my 98 drive, I was able to disable most of the extra crap (splashscreen on boot, disk detector, etc) using MSCONFIG.

In Winxp I dont see those items in the MSCONFIG section. I am stuck with the splash screen / sound at the begining of the bootup & I am stuck with that damm disc detector in my taskbar. I disabled the splash screen using the creative software but it is still there. I cant figure out how to stop the disk detector from loading.

I stopped all creative services but the stuff is still there.

Any ideas on what I should do (reinstall, etc). I am not sure what part of the CD I need & what I dont need.

Thanks,
Rich

Disabling it should work pretty much the same as any other Win OS. Just make sure you're logged on as "Administrator", for it to take effect. Sometimes by default, XP will not allow you to change system settings if you're not logged in as "administrator". Might be something else as well, but start by ruling out the simple stuff.

I have the XP home upgrade. I just installed it last night so I am not to familiar with it. I missed Win2K completely (never used it).

Is there a way to set XP to look like Win2k/win98?

rightclick on taskbar->properties->start menu, click on classic.

Hey Rich,

Open regedit. Go to HKLM->Software->Microsoft->Windows->Run and delete the key that referances "CTEaxSpl.exe". That should get rid of the splash screen.

For disc detector, you can right click on the systray icon and then click "configure". (or something similar) You should then be presented with a box where you can disable dd altogether.
