I was able to play Starcraft on Battlenet on the campus no problem. There are also people playing World of Warcraft here.

However, I was not able to even get the list of internet servers of Neverwinter Nights 2, nor able to log onto my Steam account.

What's the difference between these games? Why some work, some don't?

Its possible they are blocking certain addresses at the firewall. This is not uncommon for campus internet access.

yeah I know, but why Starcraft and World of Warcraft are able to connect? While Steam and Neverwinter Nights 2 can't?

Do you see a pattern?

Don't tell me Blizzard made a deal with the university. :screwy:

What he means is that the games are probably using different ports to get to the internet, and whichever ones Steam and NWN2 happen to be on are blocked by the university while the ports being used by WoW and SC are not.

Yeah, at college when I lived in the dorms, I could connect to soldat servers, war3 servers, but not ea servers (C&C3) or gamespy.

You can petition them to open them up though.

^^ what he said.

they prob blocked steam so people don't spend all day downloading their games off of steam sucking up tons of bandwidth.
