View Full Version : Water cooling question?
Is it worth water cooling a system without a pelter? I am worried about condensation, just don't trust myself on insulating everything.

I found it worth it... I was pushing more air through my case than a tornado... with water i'm getting a 10c diff... just by itself. AND I built the watercooling rig myself;)
I would say YES. I'm air cooling right now and the NOISE is driving me crazy. One more month and I'll have water cooling in this beast. It may cost a little more, but the peace and quiet will be worth every penny:cool:

The average water cooling system uses some means to dissipate the heat. With a rad the best that can be achieved is ambient so there is no chance of condensation. The best performing bongs will probably achieve 5C below ambient and only under really exceptional circumstances would condensation become a problem and even then it would be so minor you probably wouldn't notice anyway.

Water cooling is definitely worth it if you want little to no noise and effiecient cooling as well. Just costs some depending on your implementation.

It is definitely worth it, much better than air and quieter, too. Peltier's are kind of overkill.
After evolving my Air Cooled MC-462A system to Cohesive Air cooling, I went to Water Cooling a short while ago. Properly implemented, Water Cooling does slightly better at lowering the core temperature and if implemented properly, it does so at a slightly lower noise level. Compared to Conventional Air Cooling, Water Cooling can yield a large improvement in core temperature and a large improvement in noise.

I went to water cooling after getting ****ed off about the AVC sunflower on my P4 1.5. The thing was loud. Water cooled the system down about 20C full load and is very quiet.

Water-cooling is well worth it just for the noise and heat loss. I lost almost 20C and about 1.3297496x10^32 dBa of noise. Water all the way!

You will not get condensation with a cooling tower. The best a cooling tower can cool to is the wet bulb temp. For condensation to occur you have to drop below the wet bulb temp.
I run water cooling using a JARON Deep Freeze cooling block and cooling tower and nothing comes close unless you actively cool (pelteir, frig etc).
Ambient at 39°C and 60% RH my Duron 750@1000 never got above 37°C at full load. My mates Athlon 1.2@1500 peaked at 41°C running same system.

you won't see condensation unless you actively cool the water with a chiller. the bong will lower temps below ambient, but the water will warm rather quickly when it gets to the block, and the block will never cool to a temp below ambient while the pc is on. condensation is only an issue with chillers, pelts, phase change, and LN2
