I just tore my computer apart to install an 8045 heatsink. Everything was working fine when I started. I finally got everything back together and now it won't start. No fans, no lights, no nothing. Not even the fan in the power supply. It seems to weird to think that the power supply could have just completely died while it wasn't even plugged in or disturbed. So I'm inclined to think that I've done something wrong here.

I've verified that there is power going into the psu. I've rechecked the ATX connection. I've rechecked all the power connections at the hard drives and fan.

What am I missing that could totally prevent anything in the computer from getting electricity?

Does anyone happen to know what wires to short on the ATX connecter to tell the psu to turn on?

Short pin's 14 & 15 on the atx connector.
Running a atx psu without load may cause damage.

all the help i can give you is from my own experience

i had the exact same thing happen to me.
was working fine took it apart and bam nothing
it turns out the power supply was bad guess the suddent turning it off after that much uptime it just died

but in the mean time i would strip your computer down to the bear esntuals

cpu 1 stick of ram 1 vid 1 hdd

see if you can get it to run
if not try to find extra psu

if it does turn of after you strip it bear start adding parts till it fails then you probably have your bad part.

I cant remember the exact numbers, but the standard colors was one green then any black. Ive done it several times and no problems.

Checked the surge protector that the power cable plugs into?
The (possible) switch on the PSU? (Some dont have that but some Ive seen do, just a thought.)

I know these are things that Im sure youve checked, but couldnt hurt to remind you again:D

Thanks for the help. I briefly shorted pins 14 and 15 and the fans stirred. So I reconnected everything and then started disconnecting it. As soon as I pulled off the extra USB connecter the things started right up. Whew, I'm a bit tapped out after Christmas and didn't want to have to spend cash on a new mobo or psu right now.

Now I just have to figure out why it doesn't like that connector now.

Thanks again,

i about tore my computer apart when it wouldn't start up after installing a new cpu and motherboard. Silly rabbit, the Power Switch needs to be connected to the motherboard. Boy did I feel stupid, thank goodness i did that before i took everything out and put it all back in.
