i have an sk-6 with a 30cfm 5500rpm delta. i just got a 60mm-80mm funnel, and a 80mm 4800rpm 50cfm fan. do you think this will help me out? and for those of you out there...no water cooling is not an option.
i just want to know if the 80mm will be a little, or much better than the 60mm fan i listed above.
It sounds good and certainly can not hurt - try this... with your 80-60 duct run some ''spines'' in it... little raised grooves that are turning in the direction of the spinning air - kinda like how your blades are shapped on the fan. But do it at a slightly less of an angle - the trick, as it should do is help spin the air downward - like how a tornado works... I have a similar set up in my truck with the air intake system. yes I know it is not a CPU but it works... it forces MORE air onto the desired area... more air at faster speed equls better cooling ability and with a copper heatsink like the SK-6 you need/want as much air as possible to go across your heatsink!
If you choose to leave things alone - the 80MM should definitly give you some gains....
To better give ya an idea of what I am talking about check this (http://poweraid.com/p2.shtml) out... click on the how it works picture.

Wen you constrict down an airway, the resistance to airflow through it goes up. How well the 80 to 60mm funnel performs will depend largely upon the 80mm fans tolerance for resistance to airflow. The thicker the fan, the better it performs under resistance to airflow. Also, the distance from the front of the fan to the point where the constriction starts has an effect upon it. Giving the air a "running start" before you constrict it can really help. I can't believe people buy those fanadapters that look like a plastic bowl with a hole in the bottom. IMHO, those adapters do not give the air enough of a "running start". The only real way to know how a particular setup will perform is to do it and see.

the one that i bought is the tallest i have seen....it is probably another 30-50mm tall, so the air should have more running start then most. if you need a pic, let me know.
