I'm crashing in various games and applications (Giants, RTCW, DiabloIILOD, WP, etc) with a BSOD. The error I am getting is as follows:

Stop: 0x000000d1 (0x0000002,0x0000000,0xBFD2AD44)
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Address BFD2AD44 base at BFD2900
Datastop 3a640a36 portcls.sys
Beginning Dump of Physical Memory

I'm in the process of researching "portcls.sys" on google now.

I am not overclocked, and my config is listed in my sig.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Had this same problem with 2k. It was my VIA chipset. It would only do it if I used the VIA 4 in 1's. If I used the 2k supplied drivers it wouldn't do this.

Try updating your sound card driver or reinstall it altogether.

Rolling back the VIA pack is also a good idea...they can be a pain.

I found info on the portcls.sys file. It is a W2k & XP miniport sound driver.

I also found out that SoundBlaster Live drivers have a memory leak under W2k & XP.

There is supposedly a new portcls.sys file available from M$, but you have to call them (and pay them their $45/call charge of course I'm sure...).

creative has it's latest xp/2k drivers on it's website now. They are newer then anything M$ has for creative.
