View Full Version : 3870 or 4670? I'm willing to wait

Finally think it's time to upgrade my 7600GT and I was thinking that once the 3870 or 4670 hit < $100 I'd jump on it. So I've heard rumors that the 4670 will be more powerful than the 3870. Is this true?

I'm concerned about power usage. Is the 4670 going to be more efficient? Any leaked info or release dates?

Thanks!

we still dont know about performance figures for the 4670. Some are speculating somewhere between 8800gs and 9600gt but the 4 series has suprised so far so very well could see it beating beating the 3870.

As for power usuage it will be lower then the 3870 which doesnt consume much power itself. How do we know this? Because the 4650 doesnt have an additional power connector if leaked pics of the card are accurate. That means that the 4650 physically cannot draw more then 75watts load on pci-e 1.1 boards which most people have. Therefore the 4670 even if it does have an additional power connector wont draw much over 75 watts load.

Basically wait and see how the 4670 does as there really isnt much info out on it currently.

Are people expecting the 4670 in the next couple months, or later this fall? I definintely sounds like the card I want if it's $100 and equal or better to the 9600gt.

I saw this chart in the 4870x2 review. I wonder if it's the unknown card?

The smaller $100 part has a name, and a release date, neither of which we can talk about at this point, but it's coming.
