I'm having problem overclocking my 1.4GHz T-bird, when I get it above 1.69GHz my computer will boot and say "Windows protected mode" and it won't boot I'm trying to acheive 1.7Ghz or maybe higher. My CPU temp is 28c, and is running a enermax 431w psu. What is causing windows not to boot?

Hi,
1st review some of the Beginners Guides. You might find an answer in there.
What is all in your system? How do you have things set?
FSB? Multiplier is @ ? What voltage are you running? 1.85v? or do you have it mod'd? or is it less? Which mobo is it on? 28c CPU temp is nice. H20 cooled? Pelt? r'jus plain 'ole Air?
There's a few things involved in O/C'ng. I think I only hit a few tho. :D

Yeah I'll go ahead and check the beginners guides, but I'm looking for more detailed instructions. Well my current FSB is at 133 and multiplier is at 12 and is running at 1.6GHz and the voltage setting is at default. even if I run at 1.85v I'll still encounter the problem. and my mobo is Abit KG7. and yeah my CPU is H20 cooled. And my 28c temp is at full load at 1.6GHz.
So if you have any suggestion.... let me know.
Thanks.
She is going to want voltage, and lots of it. Of course the colder you run it the less it will need. I forget exactly as my voltage readouts in bios to do reflect my true voltage but it seems to me that 2.0v was about right for 1.7. If you are air cooling be careful, go up slow and check the temps as soon as the computer is booted. The T-birds put out a good deal of heat. Getting to 1.7 is not that hard and if you really need help getting there, both I and the guys here are more than happy to assist. Now 1.8, that is a little more difficult without pelting.:)

Well, silver, I really want to acheive that 1.7, and if you can give me some info on that voltage mod. I also notice your running at 1.73 I was wandering what kind of psu are you running. and is my enermax 431w good enough?
thanks...
