this is my first built comp and i finally got the power to come on, but i get the black screen of death, or the black screen mobo, prossor, switchs and lights, the 80gb hd, 2 sticks of 128 sdram, floppy and the cd-rw is all i have hooked up what could be wrong

One more question, if the power is on does that mean i didnt burn out the mobo prossor

I followed the link in your sig and it does not say that it supports sdram. It says that it supports ddr. That could cause the problem you are describing (no post). My advice is to get some DDR.

Some more information would be helpful. Are you getting any beeps? If you let the power come on and leave it long enough for a normal boot, does the caps lock key work? You say you *finally* got the power to come on, what other problems have you been having?

If you're not getting any beeps, I'd start by trying to reseat the video card.

The more info you can give us, the more help we can be.

for some reason it doesnt say that it supports sdram, but there are two sets of slots one for ddr one for sdram and yes the sdram is in the sdram slot

the power problem was in my head, i thought that when i plugged it in all the fan would turn on for a sec like on my old machine, but it turns out they dont and you just have to press the power button also i had to fix the power light plug because it was the wrong siz

another question, can you damage you systems speaker by putting it in backwards
if not will it still work

no, the speaker will work in either direction.

If it supports sdram, sounds like a vid card prob. DO you get a num lock light?

Not sure about the AD11, but on the Asus, Abit, and FIC boards I've had VC problems give beeps. As do RAM errors. Check processor and mobo.

Do fans connected to mobo work when power on?

i get no beeps at all

and the fans do work

Try it with the video card, memory, and hard drive only and see what happens.

ive tried with just memory nothing no lights on keyboard no beeps just fans and big blue powerlight it so perdy

First check nothing is shorting out your motherboard. Second (this worked for me a few times), unplug the main lead from your power supply and remove the small round CMOS battery from your motherboard. Leave it out for 10 minutes, then return the battery and plug in the power. Switch on and see if it works.

what you mean by short like wires conneting two things that shouldnt be

Adam@MoboCity

Something behind the motherboard, which is making the solder connections be connected to eachother. When I built my first computer years ago I didnt realise you needed to put spacers between the motherboard and the cash and destroyed some very expensive kit at the time.

you mean between the raisers and the board, because i put in the raisers

oh is it bad if the when the HDD is plugged in the HDD light never goes off?

The hard drive light staying in is probably just another symptom of the same problem. What it sounds like to me is either of these things

1. Have you tried what I suggested before about removing the battery? I really suggest you try it if you have not.

2. Is it a jumpered board, if so have you set up your CPU correctly?

3. Unplug everything from the board including all drives just leave the CPU, RAM, and Graphics card see if it works then.

4. The board could be dead - take it back to the shop if none of the above work.

what you mean by question 2

litghost

lights still goes on with only the hd and psu plugged in

Dead CPU will cause what you're seeing. Complete power, no beeps, no picture, HD light on, etc.

Only other thing I can think of is to take the motherboard out of the case and hook up everything and see if it will POST.

Have you reset your CMOS?

Some boards have a jumper to change the front side bus of the board to accept 100MHz processors or 133MHz processors. What type of CPU are you using and does your manual have any information on a bus speed jumper?

Adam@MoboCity

Question 2 means when you put the CPU in, did you set jumpers for the bus speed and the multiplier. If you did make sure they are right, if not it doesnt matter.

Definitely try taking out the CMOS battery though i am 90% sure that will make it work.

Ignore the hard drive it is only doing that for the same reason that the system is not starting.

did the battery thing nothing happened afterwards

Adam@MoboCity

Did you leave the battery out for 10 minutes, and was the mains disconnected? If you did that and it still doesnt work I think you have a faulty motherboard, CPU or RAM. You need to take them back to where they came from for testing.

um i got it on the internet so where would be a good place
also the memory isnt bad, it works in my other machine, then again it may not be compatable
can a mobo POST without a CPU?
can a mobo POST without memory?

Adam@MoboCity

A mobo cannot POST without a CPU, or without memory, or if either of the two items is faulty. I think you should try a friend's components in your system if you bought them off the net, find the one that's faulty and send it back.

ow well found problem both mobo and prossor are dead
