Are there any stats to show x8/x8 vs x16/x16 with these two boards?

It goes through every possible configuration of 16x/4x 8x/8x etc etc.

Very good article.

Given the fact that the P45 has the edge on FSB especially on 45 nm quads I'm no even more content with the choice of my bench board, CF lags very little behind the X38/48 as said before.

Those are 4850s they test not 4870s. I've seen that before and it's quite a good article.

Ah whoops. I got excited about the P35/45/X38 etc. But I would consider that their results would scale appropriately with 4870's, as they will communicate more over the shared PCI-e bus.

roofles - so you are saying that as long as you have PCIe 2.0, x8/x8 is not inferior to x16/x16?

Depends on the resolution and the game. Crysis noticed almost 5-10fps more on x16 x16 @ 1920 That's a lot, 10%-20% increase.

ofc. that's what i want to see. p45 v x38, HD4870CF in a multitude of games. So vixro if you have seen such a comparison, I'd like to see it.

it's in the OP with 4850's...
The 4870 is going to show the same thing...
This has me wondering whether it would be worth throwing an hd4870x2 in my good ol' p5b-deluxe along with a 4ghz e7200. Yay or nay?
Sounds good to me brando, one card one x16 slot I think you will be fine even if it's not 2.0. :D

so essentially PCIe 2.0 is what to look for ahead of the lane speed (ie x8 or x16).
No, lane speed is what is important. The difference between 1.0 and 2.0 is literally 1 frame.

Very interesting article. Thanks for the link. Looks like i"ll have to upgrade my good ole IP35 Pro if I want to get the most out of these cards :( I guess I'll just hold off until the X2 comes out so I have 16x functionality and the performance of 2 cards on one PCB

Thank you very much. I didn't read the article so you saved me time :santa:
P45 8x/8x can bottleneck a 4850 Crossfire setup (and so 4870 as well) but only at very high resolutions. A small difference at 1920x1200 and a large difference at 2560x1600.

Correct, the x2 is a single card, so as long as your 16x in that one slot...your good (Even 8x should be fine). Wouldn't mind seeing some dual x2 benchies heh. I'm sure its only a matter of time though
