AMD news groups all over the net are leading to conclude that the XP2200 AMD AthlonXP processor to be based on the current Palomino core. The processor will run at 1.8GHz and is scheduled for release in mid february.
The reason for the possible release of the 1.8GHz chip on the Palomino core is due to AMD getting pressure from the Intel Pentium4 processor @ 2.2GHz and the rumors of an even higher freq. 2.4GHz processor being released late February. AMD will not have the Throughbred ready for launch till at least early March so a 1.8GHz Palamino isnt out of the question
I think this might just help AMD regain complete control over the fastest PC processor till at least they can get there T-bred out the door. There will be without a doubt a XP2200 Throughbred but only time will tell for the XP2200 Palomino.
