So I've had a Linksys WRT54GX2 for a while now and it's absolutely TERRIBLE. It frequently gets bogged down with the amount of traffic that it sees and I have to constantly power cycle it to clear it out. From what I can tell there is no way to load a 3rd party firmware on it that would perhaps perform better because it is not supported (such as DD-WRT).

I need a new router... badly. I need something capable of handling massive amounts of connections/traffic. I do about 10-20GB worth of data transfer through my router a week, some being via torrents (yes, legal) with hundreds of connections. I need something that can take a heavy beating.

Ideas?

I personally use ddwrt on my home router as a repeater..and it works fabulous....its a little tricky at 1st to get started..but nothing a good tech can't figure out...

Well, with that much traffic I would look into building a pfSense firewall/router or a Ipcop box. They both would be able to withstand that much traffic without breaking a sweat. If you want to go with a more high-end route, the Cisco 851 has good reviews, but costs about $300+. If configured correctly, it should only reboot when the power goes out, plus you get to learn about the IOS which expands your knowledge base (half of the struggle is navigating the Cisco website).
