I have an old AMD K6-2 CPU I would like to use on an ASUS 97-V MotherBoard, but I dont know the MHz of the CPU. Could someone please help me ID it? Or send me a link as to were I can do it myself?
This is the info on the CPU: AMD-K6-2, 2.2V Core/3.3V I/O
A 9840MPM
1998 AMD
AMD-K6-2/333AFR-66
MALAY
And can this be O/Ced on this board?
Go here (http://www.h-oda.com/) & download WCPUID. That should tell you what chip that is.

Thanks for the software link , but the chip is not installed yet. Thats why I need to ID the CPU , so that I can set the jumpers. The board has an intel 133 now and I hope the K6 is faster. Thanks anyway.

You have all the info right there. It's a 333mhz cpu running on a 66mhz FSB with a multiple of 5.0. The good thing about K6's over the K7's is that you don't have to do anything to alter them to be overclocked. You don't need to unlock them or anything, just set the motherboard to a higher multiple or bus rate. The bad thing is that they don't overclock very well on average. Don't expect more than 450mhz total when you're done. You'll get more out of the system overall by upping the bus rate, since it's default is 66 you should have many options in that department. My board is a MSI board, it has options for 66mhz, 75mhz, 83mhz, 95mhz, 100mhz, and more. I'm not familiar with the ASUS 97-V but ASUS isn't a second rate company, I'd be surprised if your board didn't have at least half of those settings. Since it's a 66mhz base chip I doubt it'll go to 100mhz on the FSB but you may get it to run at 75mhz or 83mhz. If the board doesn't have any useful FSB settings you could try the programs SoftFSB or CPUFSB to overclock the bus rate in software. You may have to up your voltage to get a faster speed. Unless you're really going out of you way to add excessive cooling I don't recommend more than 2.6v core.

If you've got a pentium 133 in it now it may be a socket 5 board, the K6-2's are socket 7 chips. The physical sockets are identical but the voltages and speed settings are different. Putting a K6-2 on a socket 5 board could burn it up. I'll see if I can find the online manual to check. I don't recommend you putting the K6-2 in until you know wether the board can handle it. Lemme see what I can find.
I'm back, ASUS's site is "just wonderfully laid out, everything is so helpful there" . I'll need to know the chipset for your board. Is it a SIS 530 chipset and is the specific model "SP97-V"? that was the closest they have at their site to what you listed above.

Thats it and it's a socket &, thats what the socket has on it.

Socket 7, not socket &
I don't think it'll take the K6-2, at least not without a voltage regulator module. I'm looking at the manual now, ISA slots, 72 pin memory only, it's an old board. Even with a VRM the power draw of the K6-2 may be too much, it may burn up the board. I'd give the manual a thorough read first. Some of the specs seem to be within the K6-2 range but it isn't mentioned by name. Here's a pdf copy, the parts you should really look at are around pg 16-18.
