View Full Version : Tubing, leaks, and a whole bunch of annoyingness

So I did my first leak test today, and almost immediately I started getting drips from one of the barbs of my GPU.

Honestly, I wasn't surprised, and here's why.

I'm using 7/16th tubing on 1/2 barbs. The tubing is almost impossible to get on the barbs, and when it does, it barely goes past the lip of the barb before it stops. (Meaning the tubing covers the inclined part, but where that drops off, it barely gets beyond that.) I use plastic clamps over the area that's tube covered.

Question one. Is it an impossible task to get 7/16ths over 1/2 barbs completely and easily? I was told to use those sizings for better tightness, but that didn't really help.

Question two. Should I just go out to home depot and get some 1/2 ID tubing, and use worm drive clamps?

Thanks much.

may have to heat the tubing up a bit to get it to stretch over the barb.

Warm the tubing like FX suggested. Put the end in some hot water for a few minutes until it becomes soft then put it on the barb.

Goddomot. Allright. Would you suggest the worm clamps over the plastic ones?

edit: also, assuming I have to take off the tubing as it's on now to heat and reattach it, should I chop off the tubing that was already over the barb, as it may be streached/deformed?

Yea., I would probably just cut it off.

I have used both worm clamps and the plastic clip ones with success.

The worm's are obviously the best and highest protection from leaks.

just don't over tighten one on a plastic barb. That=fail
