I want to buy the G-Skill modules, I'm supposing these are the ones everyone's raving about: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231172

Are they any different than these, besides the heat spreader?

Also, besides the lower price, any advantage/difference by using 4 sticks of 1GB instead of 2GB when OCing?

personally i would go with a 2x2gb kit vs 4x1gb.the price to performance is very hard to beat.just be sure to go with a set that meets or exceeds your targeted fsb and you should be golden.

im not ignoring your initial question about the two kits you linked to,i just dont know what ics they run or how they clock :( my guess is powerchip...

The 2x2 GB 8500 sets from Patriot(Viper) and Corsair(Dominator) are good performers, I have used them both. The also both happen to be quite cheap right now.

I would have to say that the 2x2GB has been better for my OC'ing experience than 4x1GB.

I see...

I am looking for PC8500 memory specifically. So from what I'm reading, the PC8500 2GB G.Skill modules aren't as great performers as the PC6400 and lower models?

definately 2x2gb.. easier on most motherboards for overclocking, better resale value, more room for upgrade. its just that with the price differences between the speeds, most people arnt going to have a bus that requires 1066. id rather save the 40 bucks for 4gb. the chips themselves are generally pretty similar anyway and in my rig i only utilize my ram at 932mhz with my 466 mhz bus with the default ratio.

I see, I just was concerned that maybe 2GB sticks were way hotter :p

I definitely inclined for those Corsair dominator sticks, I just found them for $130 at the local retailer, with the fan included. The ones without the fan are at $140! Ha ha ha.

EDIT: BTW, aren't these the same as the ones you recommended?

Just in PC8500.

2GB sticks are definitely not hotter than 1GB sticks. In fact, while running prime blend the Corsairs were only a bit warm to the touch. During normal operation they just feel like cool metal. For me anyway. The Vipers were also good, but they are known for running best in NVidia systems, and while the heat spreader was good, it wasn't as efficient as the Dominator Heat spreader.

I just bought 2x2gb ocz reaper to replace my 4x1gb corsair dominator. Much easier to overclock with only 2 dimms. Much easier.
