View Full Version : Stock or not for cooling?
I am going to buy either xp1800+ or 1900+ with a KR7A raid. What is suggested for cooling? I may overclock later if so need to hit 2 ghz (personal plateau). Is the stock heat sink and fan on a retail sufficient? What would be suggested for another heat sink fan and where from. I guess no more than $50.00 would be it.
the stock heats sink is no where near enough. Also i think that the 1800 or 1900 run around 1.5, and a 500 mhz with air i think would be pretty good. you might wanna look into watercooling...it is pretty cheap if you build one yourself. i built mine for about 60 bucks and it ran my xp1600 (1.4) at 1743 stable at around 30 c

It is highly unlikely you will hit 2000mhz with air cooling, you may want to keep it stock until you're ready to overclock.....then you will need a water cooling rig to hit 2000mhz.
If noise will be a problem then go with the glaciator2. I use to have a HSF with a delta and just could not stand it anymore. wait for some more responses and you will have several to chose from.
And welcome to the forum clive!
The 1900+ is a 1600mhz cpu.....were you thinking the equivalent of a 2000 and not 2000MHZ?
No I am aware of the little game AMD has with the model number vs MHZ. I saw in the DB th 1800 @ 2460. I thought of toying with 2ghz. I trying to figure what way to go for cooling.
