Using an 8800gt here. I've never overclocked a Graphics Card before, so I'm confused as to all the numbers that people are posting for them, and how to check stability and such. Therefore...

I'd like to ask what the xxx/xxx/xxx numbers mean when posted, how one can check stability, how much CPU I can expect the GPU folder to take up (I'm running the SMP on my Dual Core as well), and just how can one optimize folding in general? I'm using essentially vanilla versions of everything.

In general, they mean core/shader/memory clocks.

I would check stability with the "fuzzy doughnut"...get it here (http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/)

For folding, all you need to worry about is the shader, unlink it when overclocking.

On my dual core, the GPU2 client takes up 100% of core 1, and probably an average of 5% on core 0 [or 100% of core 2, and 5% of core 1 if that makes it easier]. I was running the SMP client before I started my 8800gt folding, but I couldn't maintain full ppd on the GPU2 client with the SMP running. Period. So I've retired the SMP client in favor of letting the GPU2 do its thang.

Looking at my task manager, the GPU client seems to only take up to 11% at a time, usually hanging at around 7% (If the GPU is FahCore_11.exe). I can keep the SMP and GPU running at the same time on this e6750.

Alright, my Shader is unlocked and oc'd, but I don't think I've given RivaTuner the correct values. According to it, my current clocks are 650/1805/950 for the 8800gt. I'm going to reboot and see what happens...

console client + 2x gpu2 clients = 100%

there is a good guide in the nvidia section for how to overclock that applies to just about every card you can think of.

Be sure to set the GPU2 client to "slightly higher priority" since you're also running the SMP client, and then make sure that your SMP client is set to "Idle" priority and not low. That will make sure the GPU2 client is getting all the cpu cycles it needs so that you get maximum ppd out of your 8800. With the shader clocks you reported, you should get somewhere in the range of 4800-5000 ppd from it. My shaders are clocked at 1836, and FAHmon reports a pretty consistent 5120ppd when I haven't been gaming at all.

Yeah, I'm getting about 48xx-50xx PPD. Awesome stuff. How do I set the SMP to idle priority?

When I did that, for some reason my SMP client slowed down while my GPU client stayed about the same. I'll keep it as-is.

My SMP is folding about 1200-1300PPD. That's on a dual core e6750 @ 3.2ghz. Does anyone know how a quad folds at comparable speeds?

I take it you are using Vista . Xp uses 100% of one core while useing the gpu2 client . In vista I see just what you see 15-35% max . I have a e6420 @ 3.2 and Im getting 1200-1300 ppd on the smp client .

Yeah, Vista. Side question: Anyone know why XP uses up 100%, but Vista merely 15-30 max?

Glad to see my Dual Core is doing comparably, but I do want to know how it compares to Quads...

XP reports that the GPU2 client uses 100% of the core, but that report is false. I don't know what the true percentage is. You can run 2 GPU clients on one core using XP with no reduction in performance of a GPU.

I have the exact same setup as you AsunaNegi :D

If you want to run the SMP client and the GPU2 client (I do and get about 6500-7000 PPD depending on if I get the dreadfully slow 2665 SMP WU) at the same time, the affinity changer program helps a lot.

Just download it, install it, and done. I saw another 200-300PPD after I got it. I heard it makes quads fold worse, but it's a miracle for dual core SMP.

Yeah, I just saw that program and started running it last night.

I seem to be about set up, but just one more question:

67C. Is this a safe temp for an e6750? It's clocked at 3.2ghz right now, and using stock HSF. Temps recorded using CoreTemp.

67 isn't dangerous as far as intels maximums say, but I personally wouldn't want my chip running that hot for 24/7 use. My comfort zone would be a maximum of 55 for folding 24/7. For benching/stability testing, I won't let it go over 65. If it's that hot and getting hotter, my cooling isn't good enough for what I'm trying to do :)

Maybe I should invest in an aftermarket cooler then...
