i have a watercooling rig and i'm just not satisfied with a max of 1.55ghz with my 1.4ghz Athlon XP 1600+. the average OC at athlonoc.com was 1710mhz. with AIR cooling! well anyways i wanted to try pelt cooling. I already have a heatercore and a DD maze2 waterblock (its all installed and running) but i want to know what else i'll need for a pelt. i know i need the following:
1) Power Supply (i dont know where i can get one though! what kind? Volts/Amp recommendations! is this good?http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1685663067
2) TEC (Peltier) 156watts? 122watts? 172 watts? what do you guys think?
3) Insulation stuff...neoprene. list what sizes and stuff
4) cold plate (probably going to buy from dangerden)
5) goop. paste. whatnot. silicone?
6) The cheapest way to aquire these things! i'm pretty tight on money.
Thanks to anyone that posts! i'm sure you guys can help me out!
If you want to go peltier then that's great and good luck. But before you do I have one question. Are you sure that it's the cpu that's holding you back? What I mean is that there are other components (e.g. northbridge...) that should be cooled which help you get more out without a peltier. Besides a peltier won't cool these parts so they will limit you again later.
As for peltier setup:
1) Power Supply: I asked this same question a while back and Colin was nice enough to provide these sites in this thread. (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42181&highlight=power+supply)
2) I've heard that for a 1.4 you should use at least a 172W and I know dangerden has them.
The rest I'll leave to the more experienced since I haven't built my peltier system yet :)
The PSU looks great as well as the seller's feedback.
azhari is right as those 1.4 Tbirds get really hot a 80watt PSU won't take it.
You'll need either a 172watt or 220 watt.
Go with the 220 if you have a good strong water rig.

are you sure the PSU is okay? look at the amps. is that right? it says 20v at 2 amps...dont i need more amps? oh yeah. my CPU is an Athlon XP 1600+...not a tbird...so its cooler.

yes you will need alot more amps thin that
look at teh TEC your going to get and there should be your v/amp requirments
I would get atleast a 156watt tec
but make sure its not your not your mobo your memory thats holding you back...
is the cpu unlocked? and what are you using to overclock it? fsb or multi?

my mobo is with the KT266A chipset. its all in my signature. my RAM is pc2400 at cas2. yes the chip is unlocked with superglue/rear defogger repair kit. i learned from the tom's hardware video. right now its at 11.5x133. i can run it at 10.5x145 stable though. these are both at 1.85V

how about this?

i'm planning to buy a TEC from danger den (172watt)
Specs:
Imax = 11.3 Amps
Qmax = 172 Watts
Vmax = 24.6 Volts
Delta Tmax = 69 (C)
Size = 40mm X 40mm X 3.2mm
I was wondering if 24v at 10 amps would cut it. look at the PSU and tell me what you guys think. quickly now...lol this is an auction and i wanna see if i should buy it =). thanks again

No, I don't think you have enough amperage headroom in that PS for the peltier. :( I usually try to get a PSU that supplies more than the Imax. It'll work, just not at it's peak effeciency.

Pulling too many amps off a psu is a bad idea, it'll get very hot and potentially burn out. You want a 12A supply for 172W TEC really.
On the other hand an XP at 1700, 1.85V only puts out 89W of heat so anything from 120W up should work fine.

i don't know the stepping. sorry. maybe when i install my peltier i'll have enough energy to look at the core. so what kind of TEC do you guys propose i get? and if you know any GOOD deals on PSU's give an email or somethin' heh. i'm looking too but i'm sure with your (you guys') help i'll get more to choose from.
i'm also reconsidering what else i can do instead of a peltier setup. I wont do the bong thing again. it just gets nasty and all smelly after a while. who can recommend a good route. i'm only 16 so it'll be hard for me to put my hands on something totally expensive (vapochill) suggestions?

I'm puttin together a setup right now with 2 172w peltiers on a dangerden Maze2-2 waterblock with a dedicated 23v power supply for them and the 120w I got for my GF2.

where'd you get the PSU? here's a pic of my rig. the heatercore is too big to fit inside the case. i'm thinking of a way to get it inside. do you guys think this will be enough for a peltier? a 172w one to be exact.
