Hi all. I haven't been on this site in a while because my current set-up has been working splendidly for the last year or so and I sort of cured my internet surfing addiction...or didn't have the time for it with school and sports and such. Anyway, I need a laptop. I'm heading to college in the middle of August and need a laptop (obviously) but am having problems finding one that I like. I'm looking for the most performance I can manage while maintaining a decent batterylife

Criteria:

15.4" Widescreen
Not a Mac
Core2Duo anything above 2ghz
At least 2gb of RAM
At least 160gb hard drive
DVD burner
At least 3hr battery Life

and now the most important part:
ANTIREFLECTIVE, ANTIGLARE, MATTE, NONGLOSSY (whatever you choose to call it) Screen

Maximum price: $2000

Any help?

XPS m1530.

Why the hate on glossy screens?

XPS m1530.

Why the hate on glossy screens?

The m1530 has no matte option.

I hate glare, the reflections strain my eyes and I plan on doing a lot of work outside/in sunny areas. I tried to use my dads glossy-screened laptop outside on campus and it was a pain.

I just bought a Vostro 1510, specs are:

Core2Duo 2.0ghz
15.4inch Widescreen Anti-Glare
3gb RAM
256mb 8400M GS
250gb Hard Drive
Windows XP Professional

It should serve you well. I carried an Inspiron 4000 through four years of college and it held up well. It was still going strong when I graduated and sold it to a friend. It even survived me replacing the motherboard after and unfortunate beer bath at a party while being the DJ machine.

HP 8510p. However, from experience I would suggest a smaller screen size for mobility. Size and build quality should be similar to the nc8230 that I used for size comparison in my other thread. (first 2 pictures @ http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=570660 ) Even if you can get a 15.4'" notebook that comes in under 6lbs and ~1.3" thick, it's still a pain to haul around in your backpack.

There's a bunch of them >>here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2030260032%20103980226&bop=And&Order=RATING) that fit your criteria, most well under 2k.

No Macs? Aw, I guess I can't blame you. I wouldn't want to drag around a really nice laptop on campus...a lot of MacBook thieves around.

Maybe he just doesn't like the operating system.

I have a lot of software for windows that I use a lot and don't want to use bootcamp because I'd end up using the windows operating system all of the time anyway so it doesn't make sense to have a mac OS native laptop. Whatever, regardless: I bought a windows xp pro laptop. Now the next question is: how long does it take dell to ship a laptop? I've been "In Production" for the last 5 days with an expected ship date of August 4th. Please tell me it will ship earlier than that? I can't wait!
