Top Window CD-Rom Mod

yo! question: if i were to put a window on the top of my case, could i get a clear cd-rom drive? so that i could see in the drive while its spinning? if so, please let me know. also, would it be possible if i cut of the top of the drive, and replaced it with plexiglass, or is that too risky.

i've seen cd-rom drives with clear tops where you could see it spinning, the guys will probably give you a link when they get a chance to read it.

I've only ever seen that sort of thing DIY. I've seen it done to CD-ROMs and to HDDs All you do is disassemble your drive of choice, cut a hole in the top, and then glue on a piece of plexy/lexan/acrylic/whatever. Same philosophy as goes for a computer case. You should be aware that most drives have a little sticker that says that if you open it, you void the warranty on the drive. HTH

in the december issue of maximum pc they had a case mod showcase, one of which had windows in the side and top of the case, and one in the top of the dvd drive so you can see it spinning while the disc is in the drive. if you can get a hold of that issue there is a couple tips in there.

ok i found one on a webpage...this is a VERY phat mod...includes an led under the window to highlight the disc spinning....check it

i did that mod to my asus dvd rom and it works perfect, i didn't add the leds though

It is a good mod for cdroms but hd aren't as forgiving. I would add a LED to yours while you are helping this guy out.

i understadn what your saying i won't run away with it, besides i will be giving you my home address and if you would like ill give you my phone number.. if you would like you can check my e-bay feed back, thats about the only thing i could thing of other than im on here day and night:D..it will probly take me a day because i have nothing else to do:)

ok here they are.. i only had 2 blue leds and there is alot more light then the camera shows but at least you get the basic idea and it does look pretty cool. again sorry for the quality

where did u get laid off at drdingo

I got laid off from Syndicate Systems. Its a huge shelfing factory in middlebury they make shelfs for bestbuy and walmart and kmart and every other big stor around. They laid off by the time you have been there and i was only there for 7 months so i was out the door, they laid off 230 people like 1 month before Christmas. It paid really well i was making 11.30 an hour with paid vacation and insurance and everything it was nice... but now im poor:( and living off my mom...

well i know my factory is hiring. HOmecrest, Goshen .
Pay starts at 9 plus probably. Most people are probably around 11 or 12 for average.

We make kitchen cabinets, and we are booming. As for layoffs we havent had those really ever. last year they laid off bout 10 people but called them all back. Right now they are hiring like crzy. I am not sure what its like on the floor anymore cause i been in the office for a while. But its not bad job and they treat us pretty well.

I think that trdsw20 meant the Original idea was taken from colonel sanders.
