HK looks amazing, the hotel, views, everything. How are you going to use the F1 on a card bazx, contact with the side of the container?

Damn I hope it works lol, you could have used one of my Tek's
You carried all your stuff on the plane baz? I was/am really worried about travelling with a metal tube, soldering iron, VRs, wires, etc. Security didn't give you a hard time getting on the plane (or what is in checked luggage)?
Is Gautam on his way or there already? I noticed no replies from him here, so I assume he's AFK :)
You guys get a full day with play with h/w before benching actually begins, right? Can't wait to here how your setups clock

I would need verification like screenshots or valitadion to believe that. The world record for an X2 6000 is just over 4.1ghz, and cold. And Hong Kong is in China, not Japan

Nice :) Too bad Gautam and Fugger missed the setup time, but I guess all day tomorrow is more than enough time to set up and feel the systems out. Thanks for the updates. Get some sleep and keep us posted as you can
Day 1 finished about 30 minutes ago...I sure wish these contests would post results much more quickly...I hate the suspense. I checked the AOCC web site and vr-zone, nothing yet posted from day1 :(

Team RAMROD 6th out of 20, not bad :)

I am REALLY surprised Japan isn't in the top 15
Particularly in 8M, they must have had some serious problems. In 3D's without NewBeetle there it's not that much of a surprise. I'm not even sure who these Chinese overclockers are. It will be interesting to see the individual results and get the full story from Gautam.
Agreed...I wonder how their point system was setup too?
It must be a bit distracting benching in the middle of a mall LOL.
Nicely done ...6th place is very respectable considering the field of contestants. Can't wait to hear the whole story.
Today will be a blast for those guys I'm sure.....don't stop till you hit a WR! :)

As my team mates would know, I've done alot of work with a QX/P5Q3 and 8M
All the others are what I thought we would see, But the Chinese score of 1:43.078 is very fast for that setup
And not to take anything away from them, as they have done an outstanding job. But they must have had the pick of the cpu's on offer.
I guess Team RAMROD failed miserably in Vantage LOL. I would've bombed that one too and I am SO sweating that it will be used in the Gigabyte finals
1:43 is pretty stout, I guess they just got lucky on the proc. It's pretty clear they were benching 3D01 and Vantage at higher clocks than anyone too (duh). Congrats to them.
I wonder what bios Asus had on the boards.
The Chinese must have been pushing 5.8Ghz.
And again not taking anything away from anyone, luck plays a part in these events (picking a good cpu)
I wish we could see screenshots, I'd really like to know what fsb and clocks they were using.

It is luck of the draw, only thing is I thought they could use their own CPU's. Susie? Am I seeing this right, they were all pwnd by a female? :D

All I can say, it's a good thing I don't have Mod Powers!
"Senior Benchmark Addict" "pwnd by a girl"
Just playing with ya G :p:beer::D
Edit: @ Maxi
The way I read the rules, on day one (The Championship event) you had to use there hardware, inco chip.
Day two (WR day) you could use your own chip and there 3 X GTX280's etc etc
well guys what can i say it was a great day we have lots of images which i will post a little later
we ran 3 benchmarks today 8m,01,vantage
after 3 hours fighting cold on a c1 qx9770 we swapped out our cpu for a c0
which was fine with cold bug but only 3d stable@ 5400
the 280 gtx was really strong 1.4v 1100 core which cheered us up quite a bit
so after a bumpy start we managed 8th overall in 3d01 100590
next up was vantage which we were both looking forward to only to find after a reboot the card was now dead
so our one good result dropped us in 15th on the day
we have now been issued with a new gtx which we have to get vmod tonight
ready for tomorrows event which will be allot of fun as its a free day so we can bench what ever we want
Thanks for the update baz....looking forward to pics. Good luck tomorrow!

The fact that TJ placed so poorly in Pi pretty much sums the contest up. :p Their result however was ridiculously fast clock for clock, even faster than the one that Charles and I put up at 500x11 3:5 6-5-5-15.
We were doing pretty well (given that our chip was miserable) until mid way through '01 when another team took our thermos accidentally, and the container rose to -85 and crashed. The mobo got completely screwed after that, and we needed to rush and get a new one going for Vantage and had very little time left. Charles was almost always the calm one, but he had had nothing to eat and started panicking hardcore, and I wasn't in good shape either. I stupidly attempted to run a Vantage at 491x11 which is where the rig was stable for 01, and it made it through everything besides the CPU test, which makes sense as Vantage is much harder than anything except perhaps 06. And then we ran out of time.
It's the same old, same old. These contests are fun, but they have to make it a little more fair in the future. The Chinese team had a chip that could do 5800+, and Singapore was around that area too. Portugal 5700, Sweden 5600. (elmor and crotale did a wonderful job as expected) The rest of the teams were stuck with 5400 tops for 3D, including ourselves, so to be frank there really was no fighting chance.
P.S. we tried a second chip, and it was even worse. A cold boot bug at -26. (No, I am not making this up)
And about the Japanese, as I posted on XS, these guys are the real deal. Watching them bench in person is absolutely shocking, they are so far ahead of the rest of us in experience that it's just crazy.
I don't think it even took them 10 minutes to be running at over 6200MHz on the second day when they were using their own chip. I could not believe my eyes.
Welcome back Gautam. You put forth a great effort man!
Way to go representing us over there. Just being invited to such an event is very impressive and your knowledge never ceases to amaze me.
:)
Matt
Nice job Gautam. Sucks to hear about the board, but still managing a 6/20 finish is pretty good given that and the better procs out there...congrats.
So, did any WRs fall? 6.2GHz is pretty dang high, that was a quad or dually??
No, not quite. duck and CAL930 got what would be a second place PiFast, I believe, and the Nordic crew came very close to topping Vince in Vantage performance, but fell 300 pts short.
The Japanese were using a retail E8500 for the 6.2-6.3...
That's just stupid benchable FSB and clocks for an 8500  A good reason everyone shouldn't be allowed to bring their own h/w to use during competition :D
Looks like a lot of fun, even if it was inside a mall LOL. I think the LN2 drinking trick is better than HiCookie's Kung Fu hand haha

Those Japanese guys crack me up, especially Duck. CAL kinda looked like he might need a ride to the hospital though after mouthing the nitro, they should leave that trick to the russians ;)
You guys did well considering Gautam, what was your impression overall compared to LA?
It felt the same in almost every way. They need to put a speed cap, it detracts from a contest's credibility when TJ is getting owned in SuperPi. :p
Gigabyte was a lot more hospitable though. Asus didn't like Charles and I going through 3 or 4 boards (we thought we had BIOS problems) and they made everyone remove all of their mods and insulation at the end of the contest, so that they could sell the boards. (No joke)

Nothing. :( Gigabyte even let losers like myself take boards home.

Hey, not blowing smoke at you but getting invited to such a prestigious global event is unreal to the most of us mortals:drool:
I meant loser in the literal sense, as in, not a winner.
And Ross, I was thinking of trying to take 03 out, but we were ultimately too tired to do any benching. It was way more fun watching CAL and duck and running and getting them LN2 when they needed it. :p
I know how you felt, I didn't bench the second day at all...I was totally out of it and just got worse as the day went on :(
I think it kinda blows that they didn't let you keep something, but it's totally whack that they had you de-mod/clean the boards for resale. Remind me never to RMA or buy any refurb ASUS boards ever again  Sheesh.

It was a really nice event and it was a pleasure to meet such nice people and excellent overclockers.
Just to clarify that Team Portugal benched between 5500 and 5600. Not 5700 :(

That's what everyone was saying on "our" side of the place! The rumor went something like Singapore and China had insane chips, and there were whispers of Indonesia having one just as good. :S If there's anyone to blame it's probably Josh. :p That post is gonna be the end of me, if it weren't quoted twice I'd just delete it. :p

haha hey no worries Gaut! haha guess Josh caught us during our suicide run also. which was about 5558 or so. never did hit 5.6 or 5.7 for that reason :)
if Singapore had such an insane chip then i would have defended the aocc07 title heavily already :) was with T_M in Aussie last year after all :)
Glad you found our little corner of the net anyways, please drop by more often.
You're gonna have to deal with the two guys that kicked mine and Charles' butts this time around in Taipei. ;)
