a while back I reloaded my OS . I had forgot how many tweaks I had applied to my machine prior to that. I was getting really anoyed with my cable modem recently (very slow 550 kps ) My provider said " thats acceptable " and i said na na . Anyway I went to this site http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_patches.shtml , downloaded and installed the cable modem tweaks and I am back to lightning speed.
I guess what I am trying to say here is this really works !

The @home speed patch from speedguide.net more than doubled my download speeds on all four of my computers. Went from .7Mbps to 1.5Mbps.

I used the win 2k tweaks from that site and my speeds seem to have improved... what can I use to benchmark though?

www.dslreports.com Under the DSLR Tools link.
Try the "Speed Test"...they also have other useful tests and things there...

Alright, I swear I'm not lying here...I just downloadied that patch(for Windows95) loaded it, restarted, and tested my speed at mcafee.com. results...3Mb/s. I thought that was completely rediculous, so I went to dslreports.com. results...3.3Mb/s. Then just to be absolutely certain, I went to bandwidthplace.com and got 3.2Mb/sec. After running these tests about ten times each, the average speed was around 3.3, and the highest 4.2. Can someone tell me if this is possible? almost forgot, i'm just using a regular cable connection.

Yes those speeds are possible. When I first got cable my speeds used to come up over 1.5 ( that was the top of the scale ) the message said unlimited KPS .
Now that everyone in town is plugged into the system I do about 900 kps

Ps: the moral to the story , tell everyone in your immediate area that a cable modem sucks and they will not subscribe.

yes it is entirely possible and you should be so lucky as they haven't put a cap on you. My cap is 1.5/300 and I can get just over 1.5 sometimes but usualy over 1.4/270. Congrats
