Im thinking of overclocking my celeron 733mhz to 1ghz but before i do it i would like to know what is the critical temp. (like a temp. my CPU should not go over) this would be usefull as it is Summer here in AUS and i would like nothing to go wrong....

Cheers

First of all, WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!

OK, now let's get down to business. This should probably be under Intel CPUs but we'll let the moderators decide that. Anyway, a good rule to follow for a CPU like yours is that if it's over 45-50 degrees Celsius, it's too warm. I think those CPUs can go up into the 70 range, but at those temps you won't be stable at all. So keep it around 45-50 or under, you'll be fine.

As an overclocker, with any speed and your CPU under full load(Meaning 100% stress on the computer) the temperature shouldn't exceed 45-50.

Don't refer to Intel's maximum thing forget that, as an overclocker raising the vcore cooling becomes crucial so you need very good cooling to prevent damage to the chip and extend its life..

When I had my Cellie 566@1054 I never let it exceed 45c and that would be good warm weather. Usually managed to keep'er under 40c as much above that she'd get a bit hincky. That was on an old BX6r2 with Kingmax 150 using an old all aluminum Alpha w/Delta 7K.

Yeah, she's semi-retired now. Set'er up in my son's box and clocked'er back to 875 MHz. If he lived with me she'd still be crankin' at 1054. Just kinda hard to do long distance maintenance.
