View Full Version : Will ATI7500 handle FSB at 133, 143 or 150?

Thinking of upgrading my video card from a TNT2 Ultra to an ATI Radeon 7500 (based on the comments I have read here)

My question is this:

My current system is a PIII700 oc'd to 124fsb (870). My TNT2 will not let me get to 133fsb.

How far can I push the FSB with the 7500?

thanks,

Mattlock

Are you positive its your video card?

Is it possible you can try 133fsb with another video card?

I'll have to find someone else who can lend me their card...but my guess is that's the problem...

My other hardware is a PIII 700 slot 1 cC0 stepping, Alpha Heatsink with dual thermaltake fans, Crucial PC133 Cas2 Ram..

I am going to have to say the same as yodums. I dont think it's your video card. While i never had tried either of those video cards specifically; I have overclocked 4 machines and not once was it the video card slowing it down. Typically it was the inability of the modem, network card with their high CAS latencies. I would also try reaching a higher fsb with maybe only 1 ram chip (if you have 2 or 3) although it sounds like you have some good RAM (which is sometimes the problem). If none of that works, take out all the pci cards and just leave in the video card, see if will overclock higher, if it does, keep putting cards in until you find out which is keeping you down. As for the radeon 7500, i havent heard anywhere else on this forum that people have had problems with overclocking either the card itself or a mobo that has one.

hope this helps some.

You do not have to worry about the 7500 at high fsb. I had a P3-700 cB0 stepping sl45y that I had running at 933 on an Abit Be6-II rev 1.0 mobo with 384 PC133 Infenion ram. Had no problems at all with the Asus Geforce 256 DDR deluxe card I then used at that fsb.

As the earlier posts mentioned many times it is other peripherals or network cards that cause the problem or the amount of ram you may be using.

As far as the 7500 goes you are going to see a huge difference from the TNT2.

The other thing is you mayt have reached the limit of that cpu. The 700's were/are the best PIII's to overclock but not every one will hit the heralded 133 fsb. The diff between your 870 and 933 is marginal. I would not sweat it. Just stick that 7500 in and enjoy.

Thanks for the suggestions Cisco. I am still vascillating between the ATI7500 and a Geforce 2 or 3.

Definitely take the 7500 over the Geforce 2. I would take the 7500 as well over the G3 cause the price just can not be beat but yes the G3 is the faster card if thats what you want, but the 7500 is DAMN sweet for the cost and what it offers, I did plenty o research.
