2GB is plenty of memory for an SMP client. In 32bit XP, the SMP client seldom needs more than 500Megs of memory, and never more than 600Megs.

I surf the net and SMP fold all the time with 2GB, with no memory problems.

You can use 4 GB if you're running 2 VMs on a quad, otherwise 2 GB is fine. The only caveat I have is the new A2 core WUs are going to be more memory intensive than the A1 core WUs, but still use only 800 MB. Since you've got a C2D, you're not likely to be running two SMP instances.

Ok then I'll be getting a nice 2GB kit with 4-4-4 timings...
