The mobo in my server has an on board 8200, I've checked it supports Cuda and I've got the latest drivers for it .. Does anyone know if its possible to get the GPU2 (or any other client) running on the MCP .. I'd give a fair little boost to my folding output if I could get it running.

Cheers :beer:

by latest do you mean 177.35? stanford says to use these drivers with a modded inf file to expand compatability. go have a look at the gpu2 setup thread.

it might work, it would be interesting to see, maybe gpu2 works with hybrid sli.

BUMP - Any updates/help .. I haven't been able to get it working, the client gives the messege "Your device isn't supported officially or you don't have compatible drivers" .. Can anyone link me to any modded drivers that might work or shall I give up for the moment ..

Also, what do I have to do to get the 'Team 32 Folding Member' title .. I fold for Team 32 so can I get one? :D

From Stanford:

The GPU2 client isn't working on Windows Server OS's (eg Server 2003).

Please make sure Hardware Acceleration is enabled in grpahics advanced configuration (it's disabled by default on Windows server OS versions).

Do you have Hardware Acceleration enabled in graphics, advanced configuration?

And:

Issues specific to the GPU2/NV Clients

What hardware does the new client/core support?

The client runs on

* GeForce 8xxx
* GeForce 9xxx
* Quadro FX 360, 370, 570, 1600, 1700, 3600, 3700, 4600, 5600
* Quadro NVS 130, 135, 140, 290, 320
* Tesla C870*
* MCP77/78*
* NVIDIA GeForce G*

Which is most of the hardware supported by NVIDIA's CUDA.

And this is from NVidia's webpage for CUDA enabled products:

NVIDIA CUDA-enabled products can help accelerate the most demanding tasks—from video and audio encoding to oil and gas exploration, product design, medical imaging, and scientific research. Many CUDA programs require at least 256 MB of memory attached to the GPU. Please check your system’s specifications to ensure the GPU has enough memory to run CUDA programs.

Do you have at least 256 MB of memory attached to the GPU?

I've scanned the whole page looking for the meaning of the asterisks next to some of the FAH supported CUDA hardware, but have not been able to find out what it means. Do you know?

You may get the member designation replaced by choosing it from the User CP >> Miscellaneous>> Group Membership, forum "links", about 3/4ths of the way up the forum's page, and left of the center.

do you have 177.35 with the modded inf file?

Nice info, Adak. I tried running the GPU client on an 8200 motherboard myself and got the same error message. I was already experiencing too many headaches with the new beta clients that I didn't bother to look into a solution.

I did read somewhere however that running a GPU client on an integrated graphics board will eventually kill the motherboard. Anyone know if this is true?

If you're hearing reliable accounts of mobo's with on-board graphics failing due to GPU folding, then I wouldn't fold on that kind of mobo.

The GPU client is a new beta. That says it all, imo.

The latest WHQL 177.35 CUDA driver doesn't need that modified ini file from what I've been reading.

I just downloaded it from the nVidia CUDA page yesterday and I'll let you know if things go South without that modified ini. So far, so good :thup:

I'm at work at the moment but when I get home I'll grab the new drivers and check for a client update then give it a go .. I doubt folding on the chipset would kill it, it might reduce the life span of the board but thats understandable seeing as it'd effectively be running 24/7 under full load .. But with adequate cooling it should be fine ..
