Well, sadly the Athlon XP you see listed below this message is dead. A sacrifice to the overclocker gods. In a fatal attempt at unlocking (which I hate to admit is nothing new to me), I killed her...she barely had a chance. Anyway, I'm sure some of you other overclocker junkies have lost CPUs and more in the day...tell me about it, and maybe I won't feel quite so bad. :D

I know the feeling all to well.. testing a water cooling rig in 30 days (I am dirt poor BTW) Killed one 650 Duron, OC'd to hard killed 1200 TBird cooked I think, Booted once chipped core setting HS 1 gig Athlon, Never booted chipped core setting HS 1.4 Athlon.................. So you see as bad as you think you may have it ....it can get a whole lot worse. The worst part is in the last 5 years I had a perfect record. One month later I about crap my pants each time I reset a HS.......

I killed my 1.33 T-bird Saturday. Took my heatsink off to lap it, put the clip on backwards when I reassembled it. This allowed the heatsink to slide back to where the socket held it up. I checked the pattern in the thermal grease, it looked good, so I put it back on. That's when I got it a little off center. It locked up in the RAID BIOS screen, immediately followed by the smell of death. Got another coming, got it off ebay for $105.00 shipped, AYHJA. But I thought that was the money I was going to use to finally buy a CD burner!

**UPDATE**

Well, I found out that my CPU wasn't fried! WOOHOO! And my cries of exultant joy were quickly interrupted when I realized that something must not be working correctly. Well get this fellas...you'll love this story. Upon closer examination, it appears as though the MC462A HSF (that mounts directly to the motherboard) has a minor flaw. Okay, it has mounting studs for the motherboard. And these mounting studs tend to slip, so when I mount the heatsink I use pliers to hold the studs to tighten the mounting screws. Well, I guess I'm stupid, but at some point in time I clipped a resistor next to the stud. And after using my needle-point soldering iron, myself and my roommate decided that it was beyond repair. So I bid a fond farwell to my Abit KR7A-RAID. I have another one in the mail already. :D

P.S. Does anyone have any idea how to fix the stud slipping problem? I imagine that I want them to be removable some day, but they really need to be more sturdy. So as to avoid this problem in the future. Again any posts are appreciated.
