a game with the minimum requirements to be 1Ghz and a geforce2 to play??? Having all this speed and nothing to take advantage of it? thats bunk.

Who in their right mind would want to play a game using just the minimum requirements if they wanted to?
I'm about 300mhz over the 'for best gameplay' for UT and I still complain cuz I can't play at a decent res w/ constant-above-60fps. It's playable, but barely. I get a headache w/ flucuating frames. Have a rocket fight in a wide open room and it crawls.

I think the requierment is set too high to leave some as a buffer.
I.e. I have played Max Pane on a p-2 233 and a 16Mg Vid card and I NEVER had a problem once, and I had the setting all on High or medium. and the box said it needs at least a 700.

Thats just whack dude. All depends on the pace of the game too.
Max Payne tends to be slower than UT and Quake3.

The new Doom game that's coming out will really take advantage of that power. I'll try and post a video if I can find the link.

Ugghh.. That dosen't look good at all. Better than the first, yes. But it looks blocky.
my friend has a really old gateway PII-233 w/ 16megs of ram and i dont even want to know what kind of vid card, when i first installed Max Payne it took 5 mins for the opening vid to load then 10 for the menu, and 20 for the game to actually start. the next day my friend put in 256MB ram and it runns fine. This shows that processor speed is NOT the only thing that matters in how well a game runs.

Doom 3 looks amazing. Of course that's a crappy video and it was also in the pre-Alpha stages of development due to them only just releasing the GeForce 3 for the Mac. They're totally reworking the Quake 3 engine code so it's going to be sweet.
