Ok guys/gals, I need a new dvd rom for my car computer. The one i have (creative dvd 6x) wont work with my ati card because dma wont enable for it. So, does anybody have any suggestions on a dvd rom that is DMA capable? Cheap is the key here... i dont care if it 6x, 10x or whatever...cheap cheap..thanks

I have the pioneer dvd rom drive and it supports dma 66 and has a slot which is more convenient.

I have had it for a while and have had no problems so far and a alternative firmware can be downlaoded to make the rom regeon free.

UltraDMA is differant from the DMA that is enable in the OS. Correct? Does your pioneer have that option..... Check in the device manager under dvd/cdrom properties. If the box for DMA is not checked... check it and see if it will stay after you reboot. thanks

I have Samsung SD616B. It seems to support DMA and was cheap.

I have the same drive as chilledout and it kept skipping until I enabled DMA and it works great now. Gotta love the slot. Although it was $90 but you can probably find it cheaper because I bought it from a retail store.

the model number will be a pioneer DVD-105

the slot works like a car cd player
you slide the disc into the slot and it feeds it into the drive

I've had great luck with the Lite-On 16x DVD...newegg has it for around $59 I believe...cheap and good.

My brother and cousin are using them, thanks to my recommendation, and both are happy :)

I'm currently using an Afreey 10x DVD...it was only $35 when I bought it at the computer show, supports DMA, but I was not able to find them again after that. I believe you can still find 'em online though....guess they were discontinued...

I'll vouch for my Afreey...its a very decent drive, when I rip CD's to wav with it, it will rip error free on CD's that skip everywhere else...

If you're just watchin' DVD's on it, then no problems there either.
