Hi. I just moved my gaming rig out of my dorm and into my house for the summer. Unfortunately, my family doesn't like hearing explosions, etc., in the middle of the night. ;)

I'm not at all an audiophile, but I would like to get a pretty decent pair of headphones. I've seen that people like the Sennheiser HD212 which is $60, free shipping, at newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826106324.

Since people do like it so much, I'd be very reluctant to spend any more. Are these the best headphones for the price?

Also, comfort is a big factor, are these comfortable? Are there more comfortable for same price or less that won't really diminish the sound quality too much (keeping in mind that I'm NOT an audiophile)?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I just found the HD212 on Amazon for $50.93 including tax, free 2 day delivery.

Sony MDR-V6 would be much better, Amazon has some refurbished ones for $63.

Although the HD212s are pretty good too ;)

I've had some pretty bad experiences with referbs, so I wouldn't go that route. Also, the HD212 is $20 cheaper even than the referb.

I have a question. I've seen issues about the bass on the HD212 being to strong. Would this be noticeable in games? And, as a non-audiophile, would I even notice it?

OK. I just got my paycheck, so I'm ready to buy my headphones, and the sooner the better.;)

So I need to know, HD212?

BTW, I forgot to mention that these headphones are really just for gaming and maybe watching movies. I hardly ever listen to music.

Eh for gaming and movies, you can't really go wrong with the 212's :)

Cliff Joseph of Macworld says

(Instead of rattling your skull with overpowered bass, the HD 212 Pro boosts the bass just enough to add a bit of depth and warmth to the overall sound quality.

Verdict

It's hard to complain about negative aspects of the HD 212 Pro, given that the headphones provide such good quality for just £40.)

Give them a try and let us know what you think.

I'd get a soundcard first if you don't have one btw.

OK. Thanx guys. That's what I wanted to hear. I'm ordering the HD212s now.

As far as the audio card's concerned, as stated above, I'm not crazy about good sound. I just need headphones, and when I'm spending money, I like to make it worthwhile. I do plan on getting a dedicated sound card, but I want to wait until I can afford a card with a built in processor, which helps with FPSs as well. Until then, I'll survive with quality headphones and integrated audio. :p

And since I was asked, I'll post back when I know what I think of my new headphones.;)

Thanks a ton everybody, you were great helps!

Good choice on the headphones. I bought a pair myself about 3-4 months ago and I love them. I bought them for use with my Zune2 80 so I needed some cans that were 32ohms and had a nice balance of bass/mids/highs, but they also had to get loud, I think I hit a homerun with these cans cause they fit my needs perfectly and put a smile on my face every time I put them on.

Wow. That's all I can say. Took me some time to actually test them (I've been busy), but these are AWESOME!!

I can only get the volume on my computer about half way up before it's too loud. ;)

The sound is so clear, the explosions are unbelievable. When I have the volume turned up and I hear a boom, I seriously think I must be dead.

As Lian Li said, I definitely hit a home run with these cans. :santa:

I'm now thinking of getting a sound card even sooner to see how much better these can get.

Thanks a ton guys! One of the best buys I've ever made (and I've made quite a few I'm happy with).

Sweet!!!

As for the sound card, I highly suggest an AudioTrak Prodigy HD2, this is of course if you're only going for 2 or 2.1ch sound. This card only costed me $75 and from all the reviews I've read, it clowns cards costing twice as much, that's why I got it.
