Hey everyone,
I went to optimze a new Quad this morning and found out that BOINC has made a few new changes to the Client ..
1) First I noticed that the option "Run as a service" is no longer available during the install process - which I'll write about more in a future post.
2) Then I found out that they have seperated BOINC into two folders as opposed the the former single folder at C:\program files\boinc\projects\seti
3) The folder where you need to get to optimize your client is hidden.
I went to optimize the client and the Projects folder was no longer there.. It turns out that the new location for optimizing clients is at:
C:\ProgramData\BOINC\setiathome.berkeley.edu\
which is a hidden folder. To access it you must:
1) go to your control panel
2) Select Classic Version from the left hand side
3) open up Folder Options
4) Select the View Tab
5) and turn on the radio box called "Show hidden files and folder"
6) Select OK, then open up your C-Drive and the "programdata" folder will be there.
Then copy the 4 optimizer files into "C:\ProgramData\BOINC\setiathome.berkeley.edu\"
DONE!

Yes, I just noticed the red 'error' message in the output: a new version of BOINC is available (6.2.14). I d/l'ed and installed and it migrated data and optimizers. So, no hassles!

Dang, now 6.2.16 is out! Methinks maybe I won't get in a hurry to upgrade all my clients anytime soon!

I had updated a few machines at the house right before I came out here to work. I had no problems with the upgrades and it looked like the optimized apps must have been migrated over during the BOINC upgrade, but I'm at work presently and can't tell for sure. With all the problems that they are having with the servers it is hard to tell what the hell is going on. I'm continually having problems with my rigs uploading finished results and downloading new work units. I noticed today that my laptop here at work can't upload any work because something is screwed in their network once again.:bang head I had to suspend network activity on my laptop so I don't clog up this sat broadband connection with useless tries to upload finished wu's. and they don't seem to be in any hurry to fix it on their end either.:bang head

I am experiencing the same thing...I first thought it was because they were forcing the client upgrade, but I knew once I upgraded it wasn't the case. Either way my RAC is taking hit from the servers being down. It is extremely hard to manage my computers when I am drilling holes out in the field! I hope that they don't spend to much time messing with astropulse then maintaining their current project. You don't get new work buy screwing up the project you already have on going....number one rule in consulting!

I know it's probably hard to tell with the problems that have been going on in regard to getting WU's, Anyway,Does anyone know for sure if we still have to install the latest optimizations with 6.2.16? I haven't updated yet.

After updating to a new version of BOINC I always re-optimize.

Ugh, nevermind. I was looking in the BOINC folder in the "program Files" directory, not realizing that the Seti project was in the BOINC folder in the previously hidden "programdata" folder. Just didn't read the main post fully.
