well, I suppose the company wouldn't still exist if people were not willing to pay the price...

I wouldn't pay the high prices. One thing to remember. It is a boutique setup. Not unlike Alienware used to be. How many OEM supply top end hardware? With a alright looking case/
It is not about how you can do it for less. It is how much you do not make or create a product that competes with it. There it seems to be enough of a share in the market. That a company can make these machines and turn a profit.
What other OEM comes close to this product type? Not many and folks who do not want to mess with a build. Will pay out for it too.

QFT. Unlike us computer nerds, there are quite a few folks out there with more money than common sense and will cough up the bucks (or Euros or Pounds) for a high end system. And they probably write it off on their taxes as a work computer too.:eh?: That way they can have themselves a fast machine without going through the trouble of actually building it themselves.

The market exists, Where I work, Younger folks hiring in make pretty decent money, It's amazing how many of them talked about getting an Alienware, Etc. They want to game, They aren't savy in regard to the specifics of actual cost on parts, They just fall for the hype and want a "killer" rig. I think we all already know this, However for the masses, Marketing truly works.

Well if the vendor is doing a good job making a good product. They can add some profit in. Plus these boutique machines usually have really good support on them. Not just a fancy case and better than mid range parts.
Alienware used to have some slick setups for an OEM. I can think of a few things they had before the nerds had them, So they had a bit of a reputation of supplying a good product. Expensive, very much a yes. Least they had the product to back it up.
Falcon is one of the few OEM left that caters to high end and give a good product. Any self respecting nerd will cobble it himself/herself. The masses still can care less how the insides work. They want cool. If it breaks, call up a number to have it fixed.

wow their look is getting old, nothings changed since i started working there and even then i wouldnt buy any of their hardware, probally why they fired me. they didnt like getting their asses kicked by a opteron 148 and a DFI board at the time they were new and cheap.

Yeah, these jerks are doing the same thing. I could build a car that performs better in every aspect for 1/4 the price! http://www.ferrariusa.com/

seriously, they dont use highly engeneered parts that are solely theirs at that place unlike ferrari.

Some people have better things to do with their time then worry about building, fixing and tweaking their computers, just like i am sure many people here have better things to do then tweak their cars all weekend, or calibrate their new tv or audio system... while others think that is a priority.
i am sure there are many things some of us "pay out the nose for' for someone else to do, but other would look at us and say the same thing "wow they could do it them selves for so much cheaper!"

If you pay you don't have to deal with this.

you don't just pay for the service, you pay for the support, and the worry of not having a problem when you build a computer, I agree that it is expensive but if your not much of a computer boffin or don't like troubleshooting hardware/software problems, a prebuilt system is for you.

They do have a flashy website, I'll give them credit for that.

How many people here know people that are lucky if they can turn ON the PC without an issue?
These are the people that Falcon, Alienware, Dell, Gateway, HP etc are targetting. Admittedly the big three (Lenovo, HP, and Dell) are also mainly targetting businesses but still.
If you pay for a machine through them, you have a single POC instead of calling the MB,Ram,HDD,GPU,CPU,etc vendor to get an RMA.
I can see both sides of the fence but I am cheap and poor so I prefer to build my own.
