View Full Version : Do the 1066Mhz give big advantage over the 800Mhz while OC ?
My first question is how big the advantage of using 1066Mhz over 800Mhz for OC ?
And if so which memory should i buy ? G.Skill 4GB Kit DDR2 PC8500 1066MHZ 5-5-5-15 F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK (http://newgskill.web-bi.net/bbs/view.php?id=g_ddr2&page=1&sn1=&divpage=1&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=115) or OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 Reaper HPC 4GB Edition (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_8500_reaper_hpc_4gb_edition) ? both cost the same.
I'm planing to buy E8400 and DFI Lan Party DK P45-T2RS PLUS.

Depends what you are ocing and how far you want to go, if you are going above 450fsb then you'll definitely need something higher than ddr2-800. ddr2 800 will give you 400fsb at its stock speeds, however you could try overclocking the ram to get a little higher fsb.
Often though, some sticks are just the same as others and are just binned as being faster, if you look at this (http://newgskill.web-bi.net/bbs/view.php?id=g_ddr2&page=2&sn1=&divpage=1&category=3&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=95) then this (http://newgskill.web-bi.net/bbs/view.php?id=g_ddr2&page=1&sn1=&divpage=1&category=2&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=105) you'll see both sticks are actually the same, they just require 2.0-2.1v to get to 1000mhz
EDIT: I'd recommend you buy the G.skill ddr2-800 4gb set from newegg for about $75 iirc, or you could get the ddr2-1000 for $80
How about the PQ versions from G.Skill?
800 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122) or 1000 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231145) In particular, these two have the same chips inside, so you can easily take the 800s to 1000 at spec.
It's best to post links to where you intend to buy, since prices tend to be cheaper then MSRP. Even if we compare the 8500PK (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166) to the Reapers (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227289), the GSkills come out ahead by virtual of not having to deal with a rebate.
