I have a Linksys WRT54G router and I just moved to my new place. Apparently a cordless telephone is kicking my wireless connection. Any time I am connected I cannot stay connected for long. I know it's the wireless because I am using a cable right now but cannot connect with wireless. I have my router running on Channel 11 and I thought that would fix it but it didn't. What can I do to fix this?
Thanks
Update wireless driver on your notebook or reinstall.
Your router probably has wireless security options, try WPA1, either aes or tkip but not both.
Try updating firmware
There is also 3rd party firmware but it might be complicated to install, dd-wrt firmware.
I had the same problem in my home, i finally ended up using wep 64bit security (yeah i know it's weak) turning off SSID and using mac filtering. The lower security encryption allows the network to function even when theres alot of interference. Turning off the SSID beacon just makes it harder to even FIND the virtually open wifi. and the mac filter just adds one more layer.
Also unless you need to file or print share on the network you can also turn on VPN, that way even if someone DOES get in due to weak encryption, they're pretty well isolated from the other computers on the network.
you might also consider a hi-gain or directional antenna for your access point. Tighter beams make stronger signals
